My old 1981 SCRAMBLER returns 25 years later

I work at the Meijer offices in Walker just up the street from you, and live in NE GR ("Jeep garage" is up in Cedar Springs, though). I'd love to see the Scrambler, and meet you sometime. I'll PM you my contact info.

BTW, here is my current project...Jeep FC170 Patina Rod.

Craig

I returned the PM

you're only about 10 minutes from my place. We'll have to meet up.

The FC going to be awesome :headbang:

Just a couple quick updates.

The fuel injection is all wired up..........except the wide band O2 sensor that has to go in the exhaust when I put it back together

This morning I started out with this bench full

Then 6 reseal kits and three gallons of shock oil later

The shocks are all resealed and the front ones installed.

I still need to put a full charge of nitrogen in them and get good scale weights so I can order springs..................

Great meeting you tonight, Jeff. The Scrambler looks GREAT!

Nice meeting you too.

As for the Scrambler, not much exciting going on. I've been fitting the exhaust back in. Most of it is all tacked together, now I have to remove and weld joints for final install. I'm hoping to fire it up this weekend and try out the new fuel injection. The other thing on the list is to get the front and rear spring rate so I can order springs.

Sorry no pics :(

Exhaust is done and reinstalled

Hoping to fire this thing up later today and see how the holley system runs. :bacon:

IT RUNS :woohoo:

The Holley system was as easy as the said. Set a few parameters and turn the key. The only issue I ran into was the keyed power wire. The first try to start it there was nothing but cranking. Come to find out the keyed power I used lost power during cranking. quick fix and it lives. After it started I adjusted the butterfly on the throttle body, synchronized the timing, and watched it run. It fires up instantly, runs super smooth and has great throttle response. I have a couple videos, if I can get them of my tablet, edited, and uploaded I'll post them up.

Now I need to get springs so I can drive it. :woot:

If I can make this work..............I haven't done a video on here in years

This is a brief look at the carb I had and the setup and startup of the new Holley system. Not that exciting, but gives a real world time frame of what it takes to set up the system. there was only a couple of short pauses and one break to fix the keyed power wire.

Ran into the first issue with the fuel injection yesterday. Mike stopped by, I reached in, fire it up, and it died!!! I had been playing with the butterflies in the throttle body to get the IAC counts right at idle, so I figure they were closed to far. After a little trouble shooting this morning I found the IAC motor was not moving???? A little more trouble shooting and discovered the connector on the IAC motor was not plugged in all the way from the factory. Pushed it in and all is well. The amazing part is how well it ran without the IAC plugged in.

Finally got enough nerve to cut the inner fender

It's going to work out good, just a little more carving with the saw

[/URLí

Started finishing my tie rod so I can get it painted. Still needed the ram assist mounts and one new tie rod end. I was a little concerned with the tie rod rotating under load. Since it is bent and has a assist ram attached.

So I took a replacment Ford radius arm bushing that was in my cabinet. (What good are they anyway............. Ford...........stock??????)

Redneck machined with a band saw and belt sander into two "washers"

And put then under the tie rods to keep them straight.

Hydroboost bracket built, and installed. Extra reservoir added to the power steering pump. One pressure hose to install and the steering and boost are done!

I dont know if it matters which way its mounted, but your hydroboost is upside down to the way I have mine mounted. All my lines are on the top and the reservoir is on the bottom passenger side. May have a problem bleeding the air out of it.

Yes it is technically upside down. But I have a couple friends that run them that way and it hasn't been a issue. I did it just for easier plumbing. As it is the master cylinder is 1/4" from the hood.

Been a while since I updated.

Been working on little odds and ends to shorten my list.

Fenders are on, looks like a Jeep again.

Still don't have springs so I made some "lift blocks" LOL

Good thing is......IT MOVES !!!!!
backed it out and took some pics
This is were ride height should end up......if the plan keeps working.
