Never Ending Scrambler Build

Moving toward the time of the year when work dies down, so back toward the jeeps again. 20161022_113034_resized.jpg Got the trans and transfer cases rebuilt and ready for the engine.

Got the adapter to mount the amc th400 trans to a gm engine. Now have to work on getting the engine.

Been a bit so time to chime in. Unfortunately things didn't work out as expected this past summer and fall. Our girl (four legged type) had 2 separate surgery. First front paw had toe nail removed. That didn't solve the problem so to a animal hospital. Ended up amputating toe (cancer). Around 4 months later same thing happened to rear paw. That paw had a toe amputated (cancer). Was told on the first one that they got to clean bone and that type of cancer is slow growing and she shouldn't have any problems with it since she's 13. Doc said the same after 2nd toe, can happen but not often. 2 surgery's equals cost of the HO 350 gm crate engine I was going to put in this winter. Well worth it.

Other event is one of the work trucks is starting to nickel and dime me to death. I have a 96 F350 Dually dump that's in excellent condition. Just too large to fit down driveways. Because of age I'd get a fraction of what it would cost to replace so I ended up rebuilding the body and adding A/C. Here's some pics (for picture happy mods). Here's a rough pic history of build.

The truck was the final straw on putting the motor off till next winter (hopefully). What did get done was transmission and transfer case got rebuilt. Also got the Bfgoodrich 35" all-terrains and new rims mounted and installed. Not certain if I want to keep the lug nuts black or go with chrome. Might be too much black.

... Well worth it.

Absolutely! My dogs have brought me more enjoyment over the years than any machine ever could. They do get expensive as they get older... but they earn whatever comfort we can give them.

That's a great looking Scrambler! I vote for chrome lug-nuts.

Thanks CJ7Pilot, I'm starting to lean your way. Wheels seem to look too black. May need to get chrome caps to balance out the lug nuts.

Definitely nice looking jeep. Black " JEEP" letters on the side would look really good also.

Jeep looks great.

I vote chrome lugs and OEM chrome caps. :twocents:
At least that's the plan for mine someday.

Got chrome caps and lugs. Here's a before

Here's after. I have stock caps. Tried cleaning and polish but that didn't some of the major pitting. May give another go at it. If not hopefully I can find a good chroming shop that can re-chrome after I clean them up. Somewhere I remember someone coming up with a way to lay out the holes (for mounting caps) on rims that didn't come with caps.

Looked up a pic of one of the caps. Left side undone, right a quick polish. On right side (caps indention has most of pitting). Other caps have more pitting.

Many thanks:cheers:, I remembered reading on it and did a search. I only went back to around 2013 (thought it was more recent). Never realized it was back in 2011. Time flies, we must be getting old.

Got some time to make a cardboard template, then a aluminum template. Should be able to drill the other 4 rims before I make the holes oversized.

Drilled the spare tire rim and temp mount. Never realized where the lug nuts go theirs a gap between the rim and the cap. I'll see how well the caps clean up and look mounted. Compared to the open style it would be nice not seeing the bolts of the hub.

Been a while since I've done anything with this jeep. About 2 to 3 mths ago l moved the jeep from the heated section to the unheated section. During the last mth we've had some days in the 40'S TO 50'S, damp days. The concrete floor would get slick from ths the condensation. On the last one you could see the water dripping off the frame and axles. Couple days ago i moved the fiberglass cj8 project (another thead) out into the unheated section and this cj8 project back into the heated room. Started pulling the wheels to drill the holes for the hubs. This is what I found

This is why I'm so anil about sealing the inside of the frame. Drain holes only help so much and you don't have to go through water to get water in the frame.
