I stepped on the rear OEM chrome bumper of my 1982 CJ8 and cracked/broke the right end cap! Other than this new flaw my jeep is all original (except for a MOPAR fuel injection I installed). So....I am looking for a new right side end cap or a set. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

@Kim Dawson has durable replica cast end caps available.
I'm sure members here that have used them will chime in as well.

Since you're not looking for 100% original you could probably sell your remaining good one to someone that really needs it.

Haven't heard a single bad thing about the ones Kim Dawson makes. Hard to say that about anything anymore(except this forum).

I'll second Barrys comments about Kim Dawsons end caps. Top quality and sturdy. I like them so much I both two more sets, one spare set for my Scrambler and a set to replace the plastic ones on my J10 Stepside.

Welcome to the forum Steve. When you get a chance post some pics of your Scrambler. We'd love to see it!

Here are a few pictures of my 1982 CJ8. Painted once, MOPAR fuel injection added but everything else is original. Yes, those are the OEM chrome wheels and interior. I saw the picture loading instructions so hoping they appear ok.
Thanks.View attachment 112245View attachment 112245
Apologies for the duplicate, here is the other one of the interior.1982 CJ8_Interior.jpg

I didn't think you could get 2.73 and a 5 speed together, that would be super low rpm at cruising speed!!

Really nice Scrambler!!

In 1963 gas was .20 a gallon. Entry level jobs were $1 an hour, $1.29 in CA. Cars in the US were mostly large US made with plenty of power to spin the wheels and 10-12 mpg was common. Gas stations were service stations and 101 octane from Union 76 cost a few pennies more and cars loved it. No corn syrup additives to gum up the carburetor either. You could go to NV and trade your paper dollars for sliver ones. Most people were thin and healthy. Most families had 2 parents and one stayed home to care for the kids. It was a whole different country.

I remember 19 - 20 cents a gallon just outside Medford Oregon somewhere around 1965 as a kid in the backseat of the station wagon. My dad said there was a war in California going on. A gas war. That was when oil wells and tanks to store the oil were everywhere in Southern California. Things were completely different.

I remember the gas wars well. Mom would load us up in the Coupe de Ville and head for the gas station. We lived in Las Vegas at the time and our favorite filling station was one of four at the same intersection. It seemed like those four stations were competing with each other and once one dropped his price by a penny, the others followed within hours. Took $2.00 to fill the tank on the old Caddy. Good times.
