I looked this up on line and found that the Liberty is actually an original Jeep Special Equipment accessory. Much like the Ramsey 8000 and Warn 8274 winches, the Liberty was originally optioned to dedicated jeep owners looking to enhance their overall jeeping experience. Only as opposed to the aforementioned winches, the Liberty was sold only as an anchor, designed primarily to slow the forward progress of any vehicle, project or corporation. Think of it as a really expensive emergency brake.
One of our members wife has one that she has put over 200K miles on and loves it. They live in PA and get quite a bit of snow. They make a decent ""Mall Crawler"
There are a few in our local club too. I even helped install a lift in one. It looks pretty good and is pretty capable on the trails as well. While it is not one I would like personally, we did consider it for my daughter.
Ex-girlfriend had a Liberty... worst thing ever. Was way too small (smaller inside than my 08 VW Rabbit), horrible drivers position, hump in drivers floor for t-case was too far forward (for me)... I hated it.
An old friend had one, lifted and wheeled. It was always broken.
