Not my Ducks...I'm a Beaver fan!:D:cheers:

Just wanted to add a few pics of the engine compartment- I don't think I ever posted any of the final result. I still have to finish the airbox, but you can see the start.

And a couple shots in front of the house. The front springs are settling a bit more than I had expected, may have to swap fronts and rears.

Oh...got that Avatar changed too...

Yeah, that too!

I figured out my speedometer, the VSS needed to be a few thousandths closer to the tone wheel. So, it works now and I realized that the speedo reads 10MPH slow by the GPS. Oops! Easy to recalibrate, but that means 100 was actually 110

But, in the process of fixing that, I found out that the data link connector isn't working.... Put that on my punch list.

110 in a cj !! who are you , CHARLES BRONSON ??:D

Randy,

Wow! That engine compartment looks like it could have come right out of the factory. Congratulations on a job well done. You really did some impressive work. Thanks for always sharing the progress with us.

Jeff

Every time I look at these pics I want to tear my junk apart and fix all the corners I've cut

Great Jeep, great pics, great avatar, great thread

Got the soft top rails fabricated and the soft top installed yesterday. As the sun was setting, I looked out at the "tank trap" behind my garage. Basically about 8 dump loads of dirt that the kids use for bike jumping. It gave the XJ a workout in 4wd, it twists you up pretty good. What the heck. I gave it a shot, and walked right through it in 2wd, didn't even lock in the rear locker. Got it flexing and twisting nicely. More ear to ear grins. No pics, Eric, the lighting was nonexistant...

I did discover a couple of things though. The rear tires get into the body at the corners, no biggie, I was planning on trimming that anyways. BUT...the steering linkage from the high steer must have contacted the frame, I didn't feel it but I did see paint rubbed off the tie rod and frame. No damage, but if that's all it takes, I need to rethink my steering. I know there's lots more flex in this than what I got there. The research begins...

my tie rod its the frame under when flexing too... those are my bump stops ;)

(note: heavy duty tie rods, heavy wall DOM with 1 ton dodge tie rod ends)

Do you know what sickness is? I have been searching the 'net for ideas, found some double ended steering arms that I'm not too thrilled with...and this dang little voice in the back of my head keeps saying "See? Links, coilovers, and 40"s. You should of..."

Can't listen to the little voice. Maybe I'll just extend the front bumpstops a little- I could see where they did touch the axle, another 1/2" might be all it needs. Not going to worry too much about it for now. There's lots more work to do before she's "finished", then after a lot of driving, I'll see if any "upgrades" are called for.

I have some RE springs on mine and they get the tires all into the rear body edge when the suspension is compressed. I've figured out that if the center pin on the main leaf was bout 3" forward, it'll get me about three more inches of wheel travel. So getting some new main leafs built for the back is one of my projects this winter-

You might want to take a look at yours flexed to see if you can do the same....

Links...?!?

Dang... What ARE you thinking??? Links? No sir! Nada!! Never! Why would you want something that is going to constantly need parts replaced? You built it (and superbly by the way!) on leaves so...
LEAVE...ahem... it alone! ;)

I know, I know... like I said, I'm not listening to the little voice. I'll save that craziness for something else.

I was going to get some pics today, but the local forest fire kept everything so smoky/hazy that they would have been lousy. I did try the tank trap from the other side today...steep entry really twisty. And it walked up in 2wd again. The tie rods may hit, but she sure works well.
