Scout the Scrambler

I've danced around the idea of electrification but I've finally landed on a motor and battery solution from ElectricGT. With that I obviously won't have mechanical pumps or vacuum, thus the need for electric solutions for power brakes and steering. I pulled a power steering pump out of a Volvo S40 and got it mounted and hooked up to the new hydraulic master cylinder setup and the power steering box. The wiring is a simple 3-wire harness. It tucked in perfectly where the old charcoal canister went.

Wait, you're going electric?! Did I miss this decision somewhere?

I guess I'll stop hoping you do the R2.8 so I can follow your lead.....

Can you post a link for that booster please? I'll need that when i get my R2.8.

I considered the 2.8 for sure but the allure of doing an EV conversion was too much, especially after seeing @timo439's thread.

I was really hoping you'd go 2.8, but I'll still be watching your electric conversion with...... interest.

My silverado and my wife's tahoe are both diesel, so I figure I have to convert my 8 to diesel just for fleet uniformity. As soon as we finish our (endless and WAY over-budget) kitchen remodel, next project will be the 2.8.

What are the details on your brake booster?

The booster I got is this one... https://www.performanceonline.com/Hydro-Power-Hydraulic-Brake-Assist-Booster-Kit/

Nice! Will you mount the license plate to the bumper?
I have the license plate bracket that attaches behind the driver tail light so I'm leaning towards using that, mainly for symmetry with the fuel inlet bezel, which is now where the charging port will be.

Nice!!! The ElectricGT guys are awesome. I was too far down the path by the time their crate motor made sense. Definitely would have been a simpler path for me. Looking forward to seeing your progress. I did use their ODE batteries and a beta battery enclosure that I am modifying for 10 modules instead of 9.

Thanks! They’ve been great to work with so far. I might DM you to pick your brain on a few things if you don’t mind.

So it's been a while since I've posted progress, mainly because I was at the point where I was waiting on the ElectricGT guys to start sending me the battery modules and then the motor. I did get the rear battery module back in July and designed a simple skid plate/mount using Fusion360. Then about three weeks ago I got a call from them, which I assumed was going to be about shipping the motor. Turned out one of their SEMA builds pulled out and they wanted to take mine. They had a transport to my garage the next day and it was in their shop the day after that. I flew out and stayed with some friends in LA and helped do the motor install and get it as close to finished-looking as possible. Then it was off to SEMA and they got me set up with one of their exhibitor passes and a room in their airbnb. To say it was a wild experience is an understatement. I never thought I'd even attend SEMA let alone have something on display. The response was overwhelmingly positive, though of course I did have a few cranks call me a heretic. I'm also apparently being eviscerated on Facebook. Oh well. Now to get it back to Denver so I can finish the punch list and get it out on the road.

Haters will hate, the rest of us will just keep moving forward.

Great story, great build!
