Scrambler emblems on the sides of the bed?

Hello,

Did the 1981 Scrambler's have the Scrambler emblem's on the sides of the bed? My friend bought one new in 1981 and I don't remember it having the emblems.

Thank you. Barry

I thought it was only the 1985 model year ones that got those emblems. There are some members here that will know the definitive answer. I am almost 100% sure they were never on 1981's.

Good question here. If pressed for an answer, I would agree that these side emblems started in 1985. Someone might check the original dealer brochures or historical pictures. The 1985 brochure has a white Laredo Scrambler with the side "Scrambler" emblems. Since the 1985 hood said Laredo (or Renegade), the side emblems were the only Scrambler markings. Not an issue before then as the SL/SR models said Scrambler on the hood. So the 1981-1984 SLs/SRs did not come with side emblems for that reason but the 1981-1985 bases might have.

Thank you very much. Very interesting!

How about the CJ8 emblem above the left tail light? It seems like that would've been on all models?

I found an old 1981 Brochure I forgot I had and none of the models had the Scrambler or CJ8 emblems on them.

The '83 Jeep sales brochure shows a red "Base Model" with the emblems on the quarter panels.

I've never minded adding later improvements to earlier models vehicles. I figure AMC (or GM, Ford, etc) added it later because they simply hadn't thought of the improvement earlier. If they'd thought of that emblem in '81 I'd bet they'd have whacked it on because it's cool.

I figure it's my own version of Quantum Leap; going back in time to right what once went wrong.

His was from the 85’ brochure. Not sure on the renegade or base, but the Laredo had the scrambler on the sides with the AMC above the tail light

I checked my 81 SL and it only has the Jeep/AMC emblem above the passenger tail light.
And the 82 does have the CJ8 emblem above the driver's side tail light as well but no Scrambler down the side.

According to the Jeep gurus on here, it was determined that the Scrambler side emblems were started in 1983. This was discussed some years ago. My 83 had them. My earlier Scramblers didn't. I think this is correct.
