SJScrambler - Getting Started

Another question if you don't mind. What roll bar system did you go with in that 7 ? Thanks

That is a 1995 YJ rear family cage with spreader bars to the front windshield... also a YJ windshield.
Once that was in place, a rock hard 4x4 tie in sport cage system was used for the front down to the dash panel and then spreader bars in the rear, topped off with a YJ bikini top that keeps the sun out of the back seat...

I had to pull the engine as it sold... so I did that and also realized that getting in/out of the Jeep to do the cage work really didn't work well with my knees, so I now have the tub off and will weld on all the captive nuts on the bottom and start to get the cage back in on the dolly so I can finish all that up and fix the back panel.

Then get the top fitting right and start on the door work... so plenty to do.

Where we at with this one? Just checking in...

Life has gotten in the way unfortunatley, summers are tough around here... school should be starting up soon and cooler weather hopefully prevails. Right now I am trying to fix the brakes on the Orange CJ5 to get it past inspection...

It will return.

Tiny progress... the 304 is out and will be going on an engine stand and cleaned up/gone through/painted for the truck project.
I feel that it needs an AMC V8.

Supposedly this engine was gone through, but will check it out and get the black off and put the AMC blue on.

I hope to have the CJ-5 done tonight as well and get the project back in the garage and ready for winter work.

Made some serious headway last night.

Engine mounted on stand (love the new stand... paid more $$ for it, but it rotates soooooo easily).

Moved the project back in the garage and got the welder out.

Getting the space ready for the fall/winter projects.

for the eagle eyed and probably head scratching... yes, that is the cowl from the 76 with the older style air intake (flush mounted).
I plan on grafting that in place... still running the newer style heater setup with the blazer motor heater upgrade, but wanted that clean look, offset that would make someone say... huh?

It is a lot of work, but I think it will be cool... also might do dual CJ squirters just to complicate things more.

Might need a bigger washer pump for dual squirters. With two the spray may not make it up the windshield all the way. Just a thought, but cool idea!

Yeah, I thought about pressure... and also thought about that I haven't used a single squirter in so long that maybe it isn't worth it.
Literally I can't remember using wiper fluid on any of my Jeeps in quite some time.... decade maybe?

I have always thought the oem washers/squirter on my 84 were pretty ineffective for wetting the windshield. In fact, I adjusted mine to shoot forward 20 years ago to soak all the jaywalkers on LSU's campus. Ha, still can't stand a pesky jaywalker! :D

I am pretty disappointed honestly... the engine is a mess... there was a ton of junk in the motor (gritty/rusty) and 2 pushrods were bent and 2 rocker bridges were cracked.

I got a line on a new set of heads and agreed to buy them, but now they can't just be slapped on here... so it needs to be sent out for machining, or buy a new short block and use this as a core.

The crank looks fine and the cylinder walls are smooth, but with all I saw, I wouldn't run it without it being taken apart and tanked and honed at least.

by then, might as well go through the lower end and new bearings, etc...

Just didn't figure on more money for this... so right now I am in "grab a beer mode and stare at it until it speaks to me" mode.

Wow, that valve must have been nearly seized to bend the push rod like that. That's approaching a 45* angle!!! Definitely rode hard.
