Sunny Delight - now Shelly 2.0

I was amazed at how much adjustment to the windshield was needed for going from soft top with 1 piece original soft doors to YJ half steel doors and soft upper windows. Top was on and off 5 times. I can use both now. Time and patience will get you there.
 
Talk about going down a rabbit hole…..

It seems that the factory bumpers used in the swing-out tire carriers cease to exist nowadays. It takes 4 MOPAR part # J0968734 which were discontinued years ago. I had one new one on the shelf. I was able to find 1 additional off eBay. 2 other sellers claimed they each had 1 but after purchase they refunded my $ saying they were incorrect. So I was 2 short.

I went to NAPA and picked up the following:

While they aren’t the exact same size they are close. They are also very close to the same size as the tailgate bumpers (which are also unavailable now) if you are not using a full seal as with a full soft top. Here’s a pic of one beside 3 old tailgate bumpers.

I decided to install the two correct ones on the top rail of the tire carrier. I chose to move them inboard some so that they rest against the tailgate fully. The original spot has them half on the tub and half on the tailgate. I’ve never liked that. I then chose to use 2 of the NAPA bumpers on the tire stop at the bottom. The end result is a secure tailgate without room for rattles. I’m happy

Time to start the dash / wiring. I am using a Painless harness, Speedhut gauges, and a full Heat / A/C replacement system from Jeep Air. This will actually clean up the under dash wiring AND I will have more room due to not having to reinstall the OEM heater box. I started with removing the side marker light wiring in the tail end harness. I then removed some of the dash harness with more to be cut when I start wiring in “all the things”.

I am also wiring in a Classic Car Stereo hidden Bluetooth stereo system. So I need room for that as well. Rockford Fosgate speakers are my go to so here we are.

I worked REAL hard at how I wanted to incorporate the speaker grills that came with the new speakers. Wasn’t sure if I should use sheet metal taps or????

Sike! Made ya cringe. NO I did not drill into my pristine dash. LOL
 
Had a few minutes this morning to mess with the dash. Got it installed along with the dash pad. Neck and back were not cooperating so no advancement on wiring. Hopefully tomorrow.

By the way I know my pics aren't great. The lighting in the garage here at the rental house is terrible.
