I honestly thought I would pop over here and find a thread already. So, I'm gonna drop the stink bomb and run away.....

Stellantis is apparently reviving the Scrambler namesake. And to be quite honest, it sounds interesting.

Quick Facts:

  • Vehicle: Jeep Wrangler Scrambler, with an SRT performance variant planned
  • Body style: Two-door, four-seat pickup based on the Jeep Gladiator
  • Status: Listed on the Stellantis FaSTLAne 2030 product roadmap
  • Roof: Removable rear hardtop plus front freedom panels (reported)
  • Powertrain: Not announced; a 392 V8 is press speculation
  • Suspension: Independent front suspension reported; rear undecided
  • Revealed: Stellantis Investor Day, Auburn Hills, May 21, 2026
  • Expected timing: Before 2030
  • Best for: Off-road owners tracking the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT
No real actual pictures yet as the above was the only real details about it.

The 4 seats 2 doors is a bit intriguing to overcome logistically especially with current day safety requirements.

Whats your thoughts?

They claim they are giving us what we want. I suggest they go back to the drawing board. A new Scrambler should be a 2 seater, 2 door, short bed, sold axles front and rear. I'm ok if it looks like the Wrangler/Gladiator. But to feel the need to throw a second seat in the back kind of takes from what the spirit of the Scrambler is, a 2 door, 2 seat pickup truck. Not everything needs to be a 392 big horsepower bs. I used to wheel the snot out of a 1995 Wrangler, Rio Grande edition. 2.5l 4 cylinder 5 speed, and I kept up with everyone that thought they needed a big boat anchor in the engine bay. Give me a reliable, stout 4 or 6, with a 2 speed transfer case and a hand shaker in the middle. Honestly, if they just make a 2 door, 2 seat Gladiator and had an option for "Scrambler" trim, that would be better than what they are putting out there. The amalgamation that it will end up being, sounds hideous.
A real homage to the OG CJ8 is a pipe dream, we'll never actually get one. Manufacturers today hope that the people they are trying to sell to, never actually saw a real example of the name plate they are selling. Remember the Pontiac Le Mans from the 80's? Or the modern Dart? Manufacturers hope they can peddle a watered down, modernized, over complicated, far from the spirit of the original to the masses. OG Scrambler numbers are under 28000 vehicles from 81 to 86, a manufacturer would put a premium price tag on that these days and sell them for 5x what they are actually worth or they would axe them for under performing.
Final thoughts. For me, I think they should just quit recycling names. Call it something new, something fresh, something that reflects more what it actually is. I like the name @Interceptor gave it. The all new, Jeep Garage Queen. Or maybe, Mall Crawler, Pavement Princess? New Jeeps this article has a pretty good description of it, and it almost made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Ok, rant over, I'm gonna go try and get that upper rear main seal out of the block.

10 - 20 years ago I would have been all in on a really cool vehicle, but I have little faith in something i would want that gets built these days
