So I have been laying low for a couple of years on here and in my personal life. As some of you know, I worked at my family's hot rod shop Chuck's Speed Center for 20+ years playing with some cool stuff. A couple years back, I separated myself from the business and pulled completely away from the automotive field. In the meantime, after 65 years of operation, the business unfortunately ended up closing down due to not being able to find knowledgeable employees and other issues.

Fast forward to about 4 months ago....I decided to get back in the industry building and repairing the older vehicles doing the same stuff I did at the Speed Center except this time I am on my own doing it. I have a lot going on and even have a Jeep CJ-7 project( LS/TDK hybrid frame, etc) that I have to use as fill work while waiting on parts on others which I will start a build thread on here shortly. This one will not be like the yellow TJ I built a few years back but it will have a lot of detail work. 20260220_163339[1].jpg

That's amazing to hear. But I'm sorry about whatever it was that caused issues at Chuck's, I always loved seeing the stuff you got in to work on. (I don't know if I knew that it was your family's business.)

I imagine you're going to do awesome in this new endeavor!

Sunshine, best of luck in this endeavor with the quality of work I have seen you put out you will be successful, no matter what. I think you’re the type of person that doesn’t have to worry about customer satisfaction because your standards are so much higher than theirs.

On a side note , my wife pushed me out of the airplane door 18 years ago to start a business and it has flourished. It will be taking me to retirement and I cannot wait. You know what they say, if you’re doing what you love it’s like not working at all.
Best of luck and great to have YOU back!

I always liked seeing what yall were working on. I'm glad you're keeping it going! Most shops now only want to do tunes on new stuff. Those working on the classics are getting few and far between!

I sure do miss the threads you used to post. So happy to hear that you struck out on your own. I did that decades ago and never looked back. There will be challenges just on a business perspective with running your own business but all that effort will spur you on to keep going and the satisfaction will be there. Good for you! Oh, and find a good CPA to walk you through the hurdles.

Thanks guys... I can say that the accounting/billing side of the business sure isn't the fun part of the whole experience. :)

Get yourself a real good CPA. Makes life so much easier. Ask me how I know.
My mother was a CPA and her firm handled multiple businesses I've had over the years. I always knew she'd be there to deal with any and all issues that came up...until she passed. I now pay dearly for that privilege I used to take for granted. Still, best investment you can make if you're in business.

Awesome and congratulations! It's great when you can make a living doing something you enjoy. I wish you the best in your endeavor!
