I joined the forum about two weeks ago. I have been hooked, and have been on every day since..often times at work as well. Was first introduced to the Scrambler by one of my friends a little less than a year ago and have wanted one ever since. I have just recently started looking for one of my own. I appreciate the insight on the knowledge on the website and I look forward to seeking advice on my first Scrambler purchase from all of you!

jgarza6, welcome. Texas looks like it has plenty of Scramblers to pick through. Many look rust free- or close to it. Good luck with the search. Like its been said here before-- there's plenty of help here and you'll love the site. Keep us Posted. BTW, I found mine on Craigslist 7 hours from home so look at every site and ask around. :thumbsup:

I'am Sri Lankan & live in Sri Lanka I own a 1983 CJ-8 Scrambler diesel [Isuzu] powered bought it in 1990 and it has been the best buy i've ever made many years of jungle trails and camping unfortunately i ruined my differentials, transmission and transfer case etc in a lot of volunteer work towing and extraction at the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka engine is still great
A marine helping in the aftermath of the tsunami gave me a great site called Morris 4x4 center which i registered with and visit at least once a week created a wish list and still dream

I've also joined Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler Forums as i visit it and read the various comments etc in it and think this is a great community mow that i registered i would be visiting it very often

if there is anything I could tell you about Sri Lanka please dont hesitate to ask me meantime i will be seeing the community in the CJ-8 forum

Hey guys. Just acquired my dad's old 83 Scrambler. My dad bought new so I have many old memories from teenage years. Out doing stuff I shouldn't, lol. He passed away a few years ago and my older brother was cool enough to finally let me buy it off him, brotherly discount of course.
Anyway, looking forward to fixing it up and find this site very helpful.

Welcome and very nice Scrambler!! Seems to be a lot of nice, mostly original base model CJ-8's showing up lately! I like it! :thumbsup:
 
New Scrambler Owner in CT

I'll admit I've been a 'lurker'. I've been reluctant to post anything because of my limited knowledge, I'm a beginner to it all. I have been reading a ton and learned a lot- this site is seriously addicting. :thumbsup:

I've always been a fan of Jeeps and Dad finally got one- a JK in '08, and as awesome as it was, its a CJ I wanted in the driveway. I cringe when i hear Dad telling me he was so close to buying a Scrambler new in '81. He test drove it and everything, but decided he didn't have the money at the time.

I got my license last year, the parents decided it was time to get me my first vehicle. I knew I wanted a CJ8 and I knew Dad always wanted one, but he never had a reason to buy one. It was a relatively easy sell- Dad was almost as excited as I was. :rotfl:

I was on the search, eventually found this site about a month ago, and bought my Scrambler through this site. I'm, hands down, the happiest kid around. :woot: I appreciate all the insight and info on the website and I look forward to seeking advice on my first Scrambler. Thanks everyone!

PS- I'm curious as to how anyone else got into CJ8's or mechanics in general. Its overwhelming as to where to start, considering how Jeeps are considered "simple."

Welcome, Trent, and please post pictures!

Although I'm a little ahead of you on years, I didn't have much mechanical experience when I first got my '8 either, but rest assured you'll get some now!

Start with some small things to gain confidence, and don't worry too much about screwing things up. It can be easy to get into trouble and make things worse, but in the grand scheme of things they're "just Jeeps - built by man and any problems you come across can be solved by man - even you!" (that's a quote I came up with while trying to deal with a broken bolt in my engine block)

Congratulations on your new Jeep, have fun and remember we're here to help.

Just a note to say hey all.
Today I spoke with the man for a moment who will be trading his old 8 for my old 7. It's still mud season here in Maine, sometimes called spring in other locals. Ya have to wait a bit for things to dry up before you can do much on unpaved ground.
Anyway things are looking up with a scrambler in the works. It's an 82 I think, had plow duty for awhile, but seems to be in good shape. I'll take it back to basics and look foward to posting progress and discussing possibilities. So hopefully I am a lurker in good standing. Have a great day everyone.:wave:

Scrambler Virgin!

I'm Chris, an Officer in the Army and a Nurse. I'm brand new to the Jeep world. My grandfather owned a scrambler that I was unable to get my hands on but now have an opportunity to bid on one in an upcoming auction. I'll post pics if I can. I'd love to read any thoughts that people might have if I'm successful in loading the pics.

Welcome! Nice looking Scrambler. Looks like a fiberglass tub (not a bad thing, just depends on your preference). Really need more details on it to give you much feedback.

Thanks. Unfortunately I have no more details as I can't get into the lot to see it until early September. It's an impound. I'm going back in the next few days with a better camera to try to get better pics. Getting a shot of the front requires shooting through a chain linkk fence, several other cars, and across about 100 yds of space. I've never even changed my own oil but am really looking forward to this project. I want to be able to put in a rear seat and a full top for family use. I also want to consider a bigger than stock engine and definitely bigger rubber and a decent lift. Any other suggestions?

Tried to post this additional info once but it didn't seem to take so I'll try again. I took some more pics and found out more about the auction that I thought this scrambler was going to be in. The man who manages the lot told me that the Jeep won't be in the auction because it doesn't have a VIN. I'm in NY and am having trouble finding info on replacement VIN from the NYDMV. Any ideas? I'd like to present to this person that I have the ability to replace the VIN and get the vehicle registered and then convince him to give me the jeep dirt cheap to get it off his hands. Hi All,

I'm definitely a guilty party here. I love checking out what everyone is up to while trying to get my scrambler up and running.

I decided I wanted a scrambler about a year and half ago and put out a few feelers with friends to see what I could come up with. About two weeks later my sister called to tell me she found one that had been sitting for just over 10 years in her co-workers garage. It sat for ten years because the motor had a pretty vicious crack through every freeze plug on the exhaust side and the last owner didn't have the time to replace the motor. BUT, it had the original wood rails, three different tops, and total assortment of doors. I bought the dang thing site unseen. Probably the best decision I've ever made. I knew I wanted a project that required an engine transplant so I never even looked under the hood. Im glad I didn't because if I saw the mess of vacuum lines, I'm not so sure what I would have thought.

Right now it is all stock but I have all the makings for a stroked 4liter and AW4 conversion.

There are a ton of posts on here that helped with getting the Scrambler running. Thanks to all!
