1984 SL Restoration

Thanks, and thanks for spotting the winch. I can see the completed version in my head of the whole Scrambler. It's going to be sweet. I should have the tub back this month. :fingerscrossed:

This month, which year:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::evil::evil::banghead::D

Color

What color and paint system are you using?

Just curious, 'cause looking at the pics I was pretty sure you and I have the same paint color & scheme. But what I originally believed was Sebring Red actually color codes to Oriental Red.

Second question about the paint system stems from Gary's $997 per gallon for red. Didn't know if that was PPG or what type, but scary none the less.

The shocks are mounted correctly. For Bilsteins, that is. Most shocks mount rod up, Bilsteins, Edelbrocks, and most other high-end shocks mount rod down.

Not sure if it is true but I heard you could mount Bilsteins either way.

In a way, yes. Just not forward progress:banghead:

I finally got tired of the painters Democratic B.S. so, I went and took all of my body parts back that he had.:angry:

I am at the point of reassembling the main body of the Jeep to see how things line up with the OEM tub mounted on the frame. I also wanted to see how the RE 4.5 looked and needed to remotivate myself to keep going as well.

I am then going to take the tub, fenders, etc. back apart and have started all over again by another shop :angry:

Lessons learned I guess. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I have been doing alot of small projects for the Scrambler so that when it is finally ready to be put back together everything else will be ready to be installed as well.

Here is an updated picture of the SE 8274 winch I recently picked up for it.

Yes, the color is Sebring Red. The paint is by R-M and was about 500 per gallon just for he paint. Lucky for me my old painter wasted about half of it... I can't seem to find the smiley face I'm looking for :evil::angry:

What happen with the painter? Quality? Time? Looks like he sprayed the base coat on most of it.

8 months ago I was told it would be ready in less than 6 weeks. His shop is across the street from mine. In that 8 months I watched countless smaller jobs come and go. Along the way I cleaned and painted my frame, new stainless lines, gas tank, etc. He did sandblast, fill holes, pull dents, whatever. I worked on the frame from time to time and I assume he worked on the body from time to time. About a month ago he realized it was too big of a job for him and that he charged way too little. After watching "spankrjs" basically completely rebuild one himself in the same time frame that my "painter" took to do about a full week of prepwork on my tub I just had enough. I got tired of his more money less work attitude and I just took it back to my office. Now I just want it done so I can enjoy it. The hood, w/s frame, fenders, bulkhead, and tailgate are basically ready for the final prep and paint all mounted up. The tub only has a half a** coat of red paint on it The bottom is complete with paint. I'm told no real painter will want to paint over his prep work and still warranty the job. So far it's just time wasted b/c he did more prep work than what I originally paid him.

Bummer! I was wondering why I haven't seen much action on your thread lately.

Are you satisfied with the quality of his prep work? If so, I would have the new shop clean and paint. It seem that as long as a the paint products are compatible then you shouldn't have a problem. I understand you concern though, someone out there is willing to take on you project and get it done.

He started cutting corners as I was pushing him to finish so I pulled it.

Sorry to hear about the painter problems, that sucks. It is true that no good body/paint shop will start where he left off. Even if he did good prep and body work there is no way to guarantee it. Any reputable shop will want to take it back down to bare metal to make sure their final product is a quality one and will hold up to their standards. It's a reputation thing.

Thats a real bummer, I feel your pain. I painted mine myself. it came out pretty good and if I were to do it again I know it would be even better. BTW, I'm only 15 miles away in Gonzales

Man I knew I could find a good painter who has painted a Scrambler before. Let me know when and I'll bring the beer. Oh and my left over paint, hardner, clear, etc.. :thumbsup:
