New Scrambler owner! YeeHaa!

Is that something like fixing the rear main and sump seal and then everything else starts leaking? Satisfying for sure.

I just read this. If you can measure the inter sleeve of the bearing and see if you can get a pipe (ex. gas line) at a home depot or the like, if it slid that easy a gentle tap with a hammer on a pipe on the inter sleeve can slide it back into place. A replacement bearing as a driver you might have to deal with pulling that bearing is it slide onto the shaft (same inside diameter).

Gazzo- dying laughing- yes, just like that!!!

Jammer- thanks for the reply. Long story (I posted it in Jeepforum.com), but I looked at a diagram of the axle online and it has a shoulder that prevents the bearing from slipping in that direction. What I discovered was the race was getting hung up on the axle tube. It simply wouldn't fit!! I had to polish up the end of the tube (actually grind a bit, then polish), and everything is good now).

I did discover major end play on the other (drivers side) axle, so I'm just going to order Moser axles and be done with this two piece crap!!!!

I'm glad you were able to make it work, I had the moser axles put on two of my jeeps (second is still being built) and never looked back, their great.

That's good to know Jammer! Ordered my Moser axles on Monday. Downside is all of that "bent over at the waist" work led to me pulling a muscle in my back. It ain't nifty being fifty!!!:rotfl:

Hunting season has killed (pun intended) my work on Edgar. Good news is I've been having a blast driving it out to the hunting lease!

This past Thursday I decided to ditch the old "off brand" 31's after I noticed a nice little crack around the sidewall of one tire. Hey, it's all about the safety of my family :rotfl:, so it was important that I upgrade to 33 x 10.5's. I agonized over going 32 x 11.5, but I like the height of these plus I didn't lose any turn radius.

Definitely going to try to refurb the top and seals next, then on to painting the body....if I can ever stop driving it.

Here's a pic of the new (and freshly dirtied) tires from this weekend.

Looks so good in pics. You paint it and you won't want to take it hunting anymore for fear of scratching it!

Ha! Exactly Letchcore! Fortunately I do my own painting, so there should be enough imperfections in it that it won't bother me. :smokin:

5 days since my last post, and my back is still hurting. I felt like a complete wuss when the cute, tiny UPS girl had to carry my new axles in my garage while all 6'2" of me hobbled around like Fred Sanford!!! I'm falling apart! Where's my Bendpak auto lift??

So here I am in February. Back still hurts from that axle debacle, and the Moser one piece axles still sit in the box on the garage floor. So I decided I wanted to tackle something that didn't involve bending at the waist, and what better option than to fix that blasted leaky windshield!

First I replaced the windshield cowl rubber, just to see if it'd have any impact. It didn't, but that was obvious when I folded the windshield down and saw how pristine everything was:

So onward I plodded to remove the windshield frame, staring at those god-foresaken Torx bolts that hold it on, with their already wallowed out glory staring at me. PB Blaster worked on all of them.....but one..
So time to break out the welder. Secured a nut on there and was making headway until the bolt sheared off, so I ended up drilling it out and re-tapping the hole.

Lots of rust under the hinges and, once the glass was pulled, not much sealant and some rotted gaskets (hence the foot-soak I was getting every time it rained)

Grind, POR-15, a small bit of skimming with puddy, and it was time for paint:

Leaving on a business trip in the morning but will wet sand and reinstall the glass when I return. Ended the day with my 8 yr old birthday boy and his friend at Sonic. He's a natural behind the wheel of the 5!

Good job on the windshield frame!

Thank you sir! Although pics always make it a bit better, I was happier the way the clear laid down this time. Way less orange peel!

Only problem is this paint is so nice and new it's going to stick out like a sore thumb with the tired paint on the rest of the vehicle!

Looks like it's time the jeep gets a rub and buff. With any lick the color will come close. Hopefully it will be close enough. Better than what I had to do.

Exactly, jammer! That's my plan of attack. I'll have to go easy because that original paint is THIN. It's down to the primer on parts of the hood.

Jammer, you were right. Holy cow there's actually some decent paint under that oxidation on the cowl!!! Reassembled the frame today and it goes to my buddy's glass shop on Monday. It matched right up! Now to buff the rest of it!!
Edit: I have new hood hinges and fresh air cover. That nasty chrome stuff is outta here.

Shinarama!
Under your screen looked exactly like mine when I folded it down for the first time in it's lifeImageUploadedByTapatalk1425162878.501121.jpg

Nice Gazzo! Like twins except for the steering wheel. :bacon::rotfl:

Wow that came out nice. Great reflection of the frame in the cowl:drool:

Suppose you can't help it if yours is on the wrong side :hehehe:
Got mine out of the shed here then it started raining so back into the shed it went. Pfff

Just caught this post and have been reading through it, great looking scrambo. I will say I am partial to the color/decal combo.
