New Scrambler owner! YeeHaa!

Thanks McBride. I'd like to see pics of yours. I still laugh at how much better mine looks in a photo than in real life. Yes, it's straight and still mostly original, but the paint on the topside is really dead, the underside needs to be sandblasted/painted and it has a rust spot on the drivers side rear rocker panel (and I found the other side is starting to blister too. Oh, and both doors have the classics "stress cracks" in them that I need to repair. I'll be busy this fall/winter for sure!!

Nice looking Scrambler PMan!

Painting the wheels made a huge difference!

Any plans to pin stripe the wheels too?

Thank you gents! SKT-Definitely am thinking of pinstriping them, just want to make sure I don't screw it up. "Keith" on the Jeepforum board did an amazing resto of his original CJ7 Renegade, and has a video of him (well, a friend) using a motorized jig to turn the wheel while he held his hand/brush in place.

Keith did an amazing job on his resto! I followed his entire build. Your is looking great, love the wheels but they need the pinstripe to really make them pop!

Agreed Polarfire. Definitely going to figure out how to get the pinstripe on there.

And yes, Keith's build was absolutely phenomenal!!!

Pman, they sure do look better in pictures. I bought mine on pictures and phone conversations and my heart still sinks when I find a rust bubble that I would have noticed on personal inspection.

I did know about the rust over the back wheels.

Your Scram sure does look nice.

Yours looks nice and straight! I like it! And I agree; although I'm pleased overall with it, there are a number of things that I would have used as negotiation points once I saw it, particularly the underside and the RMS leak. I also found a body mount puck/bolt in the driveway on Monday. Fell off from rust.
I'm taking it to a guy here in town that sandblasts cars for a living; does great work. I'm having him clean the while underside to get rid of the rust scale on the tub. That "should" be the last of my outsourcing labor, and I'll start prepping to paint the whole vehicle next.

The sand from sand blasting gets everywhere! I have heard of new style sand blasting that uses water. I wonder if that would keep the sand out of areas you don't want it. If not I would cover anything and everything you don't want sand in. Including the motor.

Pman, it looks like we are chewing on the same problems! last Friday I was snooping around under the Scram and found 1 body mount bolt broken off. (All the rest have been replaced and very recently, thank God).
Also thinking of manning up and pulling the tub for sand blasting this fall, not sure if I can handle what may lurk under the paint. Give me strength.
I figure "buy once, cry once" and I have wanted a Scram all of my adult life.
BTW, We almost moved to Chapin SC 6 years ago, but life changed. Beautiful country and beautiful people. Still want to get to the South East if only for a visit. It took me half a day to realize that "Hay" means "Hi".
Have some spicy boiled peanuts and a cold beer for me, if you would.

Don't know how to edit, so I'll add this here.
My lovely brides cousin (who happened to own the very first Scram I ever saw in 1982 is a body man and has restored several CJ8s) Think I might have an "In" on this build.

Good points, Letch. Firewall forward is in great shape, so he's focusing just on the floor pans back. This guy does a lot of cars, but I'll make sure to stress that the engine compartment is sealed off/covered to minimize that.

ScramblerMan- good luck with your build. I'm not as fortunate in that I'll be replacing all of my body mounts! You definitely need to get back down here! One good thing is we have no salt on the roads (unless you drive to the beach during an extreme high tide)!

Planning on knocking out a few things on the 8 this long weekend. Hope the weather stays mild.

Guys, my scrambler body was so bad when we got the body off the frame I could see all the problems. Ended up scrapping the body and buying an Arizona body that had been blasted and you could see every problems.

I have a friend that restores CJ's and he has been working on the body for a few weeks now. I am convinced I will have one of the nicest CJ8's on the road in a few months.

If you are going to build one, take the time to do it right so that you only have to do it once.

All this chatter about having one of the nicest CJ8's around, getting me all worked up and there are NO PICS???? Post 'em up pronto!:D

I am trying to learn how to post pictures now. Just figured out how to put a picture of the CJ as my avatar.

One of the entertaining things about buying used vehicles is seeing what the POs have cobbled together. I had a good bit of work to do around the house today, so thought I'd pick something "easy" to do on the Scrambler, which meant pulling the chrome instrumentation bezel off and replacing it with the factory correct black. As I was removing the aftermarket mechanical oil pressure gauge to fit the bezel on, I found this fancy mounting system: 2 hose clamps connected together in a circle, designed to hold the gauge in place...oh well, I guess it worked. But the ground wire woven into the slots of the clamp? Not even sure what this ground goes to, but I connected it properly later.

Check out the fancy "grounding" job on the clamp (look for the black wire on the clamp, by the bolt):

Hey tell me something do you guys have rust rear of the wheel well along the line where the floor pan meets the side but NOT in the same place on the left? Weird similarity on ours

Gazzo- you mean along the rocker panel? Behind the front wheel well or rear?
