My old 1981 SCRAMBLER returns 25 years later

Did another little project that has been on my "list" today.

About a year ago I picked up A Harbor Freight wireless winch control for a badland winch. On sale with a coupon it was $19

I went online, searched, and found the color codes for the receiver box. The factory Ramsey 4 pin round has all of the needed wires except a ground.

Step one.....cut off Chinese end

Step 2 install Ramsey end, which is a 4 pin trailer plug, and a eternal ground wire so I don't have to did into the solenoid box.

I screwed the receiver to the original box and left the pigtail long enough so it can plug into the front, or be tucked under the back of the drum when not in use.

And if the el-cheapo wireless quits.....I can still use my wired control.

Got back to the CB today.

Made a stainless bracket to go on the drivers side windshield hinge. Still need to polish it, and run the wire under the windshield frame, But it works great.

Had to shorten up the top hinge pin so the door can be lifted off............I'm blaming the engineer

My lifters and roller rockers are here. The cam should be here this week. hope to get them installed and check inside the engine next month.

And for the next project..................I need some opinions.

Since I'm heading to Windrock in the spring.............Armor is in order.............and............

I need to make more clearance for articulation, I don't think the fiberglass will take kindly to tire contact. :rotfl:

Plan is to build aluminum tube fenders for the front and aluminum armor with tube flares in the back.

The armor will be 3/16 6061 aluminum with a reinforcing lip on the bottom edge. and it will be bolted through the body on both sides on the wheel well. That way if the flare gets hit it is backed up by the wheel well on the inside.

They will be painted metallic silver to match the links and diff covers with the flares painted black for contrast (and easy touch up)

I need opinions on the shape for the rear armour.

First design would leave the most shiny blue paint..........

2nd would leave a blue stripe at the top...........

3rd the pattern was a little short, it would be shaped the the 2nd design on the front.

on a side note, the armor should be about 150 lbs lighter than steel armor. :smokin:

It's just my opinion but I would prefer to see a Jeep with battle scars than one with armor. So what's worse dents or bolt holes?

If it was steel.................I think dents.............fiberglass means cracking..........I'll take bolt holes.

I need to open up the wheel wells, which means tube flares. The flares will more than likely get rubbed on the trail. I think if they are tied into armor they will take a hard hit without destroying the fiberglass.

The blue is almost too beautiful to cover up. Option 1 covers the least amount of paint but also gives you the least strength. What about doing option 2 or 3 and painting the armor to match???

Just thinking out loud...

Paint to match !

I agree! Paint to match!!! That red one is sweet!! :D

Somehow I didn't get any notification for replies. And I haven't been online much. (We're on vacation )

It's looking like option 2 is the one. And I do have matching paint. ......but it's way harder to touch up.....hmmm

Might have to make it match anyway

Started assembling the full doors yesterday.

Pulled the soft top hardware off and did a trial fit on the half cab.

Next is install some weather stripping, finish fitting the doors, and put in the stock roll bar.

The new look for fall

Still have to cut the bed mat so I can install the stock roll bar
