Ever wish you'd never done something? That's where we are with Tapatalk.
This is incredibly unfortunate to have to say, but it's been a long time in coming. Matt and I have made the decision to remove Tapatalk from this forum. Timing is to be determined and we will have the best possible alternative for mobile/phone/tablet use in place before it happens. That said, it's likely going to be a compromise and lessen some functionality, sadly, we have no choice.
The list of things that have led us to this is incredibly long and I ask that folks please keep in mind that all we are doing is looking out for our users' security, the integrity of this forum and it's data.
The basic issue is that, for years, Tapatalk has been eroding the ability of forum owners to control what happens via Tapatalk and trying to force forum users into the "Tapatalk world" where they make money by serving ads. In doing this, they've made some seriously poor choices for functions/features that have gotten to the point where we're backed into a corner.
Some may remember when ads started being served through taptalk on this forum without our consent (from which the forum would have seen no money anyway). That was truly the beginning of the end, everyone knows we're very ANTI-ads.
They've finally crossed a line from which there's no coming back.
We currently have a mobile style that is available for use on your phone/tablet that can be enabled by using your mobile browser and going to the drop down in the lower left corner of any forum page to select "Default Mobile Style"

We know that this will be a massive transition and it may mean losing images that were posted to Tapatalk's servers. This is a perfect example of one of the things that they made default to "force" forum owners to continue using the service. They HAD THE ABILITY to leave the upload setting default as the forum's server, but instead they set it to their server in order to further trap forum owners and force them to keep using the platform.
There will be no debate on this, the decision is made, and we simply wanted to be sure to let everyone have as much warning as possible of the coming change. I will update this thread when we have a plan and ask for input if there are things where we have multiple options.
Again, sorry to say this and exceedingly sorry that we ever went down this path.
Eric
