Hard to compare then to now 30 plus years later, but I'm smelling what your stepping in..

It's that rear quarter view that gets me going. And for that reason you probably photographed yours that way too :)

The higher roofline and barn door is just so damn good looking. And functional !!

The roof line is distinct and strong like the Jeeps. The fiberglass tops are soft and featureless exactly unlike the Jeeps. That’s what does it for me.

I was just asked, "If you go to a drive thru, do you have to bring a Grabber Helping Hand, or do you drive thru backwards?"

Robert - Do your wheels look original paint? I notice that all of them do not have the black pinstripe. My wheels have been repainted and also do not have a stripe. However, my spare has the black pinstripe, but I have not checked the date. The tires shown on the Overlander brochure also do not have pinstripes. Jersey and I have been wondering what is correct although we both agree the pinstriped wheels look better.

Why restore? that thing has great patina and of course, only original once

I would love to keep it original, but there is some rust that must be addressed. The entire cowl will need replacement as the 2 triangles on each side are rusted thru. If that was it, I would get the patches from Toby and fix, but at the driver side hood hinge there is rust perforation thru and it will need to be fixed.

The floorboards need replacement.

There is some silicon calking applied to the cowl seal, so I am not sure if there is something going on at the base of the windshield.

There is some very minor rust in many places, all surface rust and not really structural rust.

At the leading edge of the top there is a hole or something weird going on that needs fixing.

The master cylinder is leaking and the paint is gone from the driver's side inner fender.

All in all, I wish it was in patina state where I would enjoy it as is, but I personally think it needs some work to bring it to driver status.

The interior of it is in excellent shape, just needs a new headliner.

The real issue is the cowl. Since the windshield needs removal to replace the cowl, the top needs removal to remove the windshield (or at least loosened) and the top needs some work, it all points to fix it the right way and really preserve it for future generations.

I am already in contact with a shop in Australia to get some spare parts, so I am starting my collection for proper restoration.

But, I don't plan to start work on this until my '82 is "completed". So, there is still time for me to change my mind.

Are my floor repairs not good enough?

No, they are GREAT. I just have a feeling that when the DPS officer gets in to do the VIN inspection (so I can get a title) they would like their feet to stay inside the vehicle.

I did not look that close, will look this evening when I get home. I'm thinking about getting a chrome set to put on it and put these on my '82, but that is still up in the air. Or if I found a set of turbines, I would put those on my '82.

I have this large poster but I can’t tell if the rims are striped. The smaller stationary picture in this fold out shows striped rims. It’s a right hand drive but no Overlander decals
