You're correct, but there's a local distiller who makes breadfruit vodka & comes up with various cocktails (often times reworks of rum cocktails) & infusions. I just picked up a caramel/coffee infusion yesterday & they had banana cream pie a couple of weeks ago (sold out over the weekend, I have two bottles in the cupboard). They did a coquito at Christmas time that was actually one of the best I've had (the cultural appropriation folks were upset). They also do a coffee, smoked Scottish bonnet pepper (goes really well in bloody Mary's & surprisingly margaritas), ginger & tumeric, pineapple, sour orange, etc. Most of them are seasonal based upon what fruits are available locally at the time.

My favorite tropical drink is rum and orange juice, shaken and not stirred. Rum and papaya juice is good also

But after much thought, the color scheme will be red and black. I thought of the 81 black and silver might work. Like this-

But it just didn’t look right adding silver and grey in. Plus I have the factory rocker guards which will be coated in textured black like in the above picture.

So if I do anything it will be all black decals, of the wrong year. But this really isn’t a restoration, it’s a resto-mod, so I’m good with that. And I may just go with no decals, or just the "SCRAMBLER" on the hood, maybe a bit of a slightly slanted font, with a small "6.0" off the lower corner of the R.


So, after editing this post, I did what most of us do- looked at Scrambler pics. Found this...if I do a hood decal, this might be it.

Mine is Oriental Red (as close as my painter could formulate) 2 stage; with pretty much the deacals on the hood you have in the last pic.... Great minds think alike?

I'm too tall for a half cab to ever work....

Tower- love your Scrambler. Mine will sit a bit lower, and have all black wheels and rocker trim, but other than that, pretty close to my vision! Love the wheels!

As for the discussion of liquid libations- no hijack! I’m all for it!

Well, long story short. I started playing with console ideas, which led me to revisit the shifter, and weld up a solid bracket for the cable. I had hoped it would have helped with the shift effort out of park, but no improvement. It’s “OK” but not great. You have to really be careful or it goes straight to neutral. The biggest issue is the shifter I’m using only has a little over 2” of throw, so the lever on the trans is so short it takes a lot of force to move it. I’m still not 100% happy with it, so it’s time to decide on a replacement shifter.

I toyed with the idea of a column shift, but I want something more “performance oriented”.

The search continues...

Would trying to build my own shifter be insanity?

Something that works like a Winters, uses a boot to cover the mechanism, or at the very least a sliding cover, and an electronic gear selection indicator?

Or have I had too many margaritas?

Espolon silver is my current brand of choice. Patron Silver is amazing but I have to watch my budget- I have a hungry Scrambler!

Maybe I should buy the winters shifter and just be happy. See- who says a couple drinks don’t make you smarter?

I can always add the electronic gear indicator afterwards...

Yeah, I’ve adjusted a loosely installed Lokar, and that alone is enough to steer me clear. But, after the adjustment, I could tell it wasn’t the shifter if you occasionally want to slam through the gears. Neither is the Gennie or the American for that matter.

I may have found the most intriguing shifter ever....go to https://www.kilduffmachine.com/

They have multi-lever shifters, a simple shifter with a “fun” lever, and a totally amazing horseshoe shifter. They aren’t cheap, however. But they would fit the overall flavor of my build.

I thought on the Lokar you could shift 1st to 2nd to 1st without detents, then it step-detented in D, and could shift D to OD to D witnout detents, all while only hard detenting in P and N? Basically the same as most stock console shifters. If nothing else, it looks like the detent plate on the Lokar is pretty simple and could be manipulated with a ramp profile between 2nd and D to allow full gear range while just offering slight resistance on the ramp between 2nd and D so you at least had reference when pulling from P. Just a thought... I like the looks of the Lokar best, and the option of hard mounting and mechanically linking to the trans is nice.

The Kilduff shifter looks like a modified "his-hers" shifter from a Pontiac. Could be fun, but that's pretty steep, and I feel it would look silly anywhere but a full fabbed console.
