JAREDO

Very cool. It's going to be a pretty nice ride when it's done. Shame that LJ isn't a 6 speed, that would be the ultimate swap I reckon.

The truck cap will probably be "saved" but not used. We will need to have a back seat and of course. Ill need some kind of full top for the family eventually. We know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody that works at GR8TOPS so hopefully we can come with something cool.

Surprised we didn't bring out the coil spring and purest haters with the LJ frame swap.

Going to try and retain as much of interior and exterior patina as we can for now.

This week we are labeling and pulling all the wiring harness off the LJ frame, motor and transmission.

Then start disassembling the front clip on the CJ8 and probably pull the seats, top off the body in prep to pull the body off.

There is some minor floorboard issues and the panel that the rear cage foot attaches to has some issues so we will have to address those as some point.

I’d bet you could come up with something super cool with Jeff involved too.

Not at all. Smart move in my book.
Agreed. Love that swap. Fantastic improvement. I was merely lamenting it being an automatic transmission, not faulting the swap. Truth is I'm envious.

I've often fantasised about the same swap but with a 6 speed gear box. Before I bought my ECGS Dana 60 axles and committed to keeping my frame (which is a perfect and rust- free frame, so hard to justify scraping it) I looked at buying an LJ for exactly that purpose.

I can't wait to see the progress.

Made a little progress today. Baby steps to get the oldest involved.

labeled and removed the harness from the LJ.

I actually had the same idea using an LJR drivetrain. (The body was damaged, but the frame/drivetrain were intact)
Wasn't quick enough, (story of my life).
I'd be driving mine now... okay, maybe not.

Either way, enjoying following along.

In Melbourne about 2 years ago? That's the one I was referring to....tried to buy it but by the time I could go up to look at it it was sold.

No, I hadn't seen that one. I probably could have found time for that.
It was ~4 years ago in Daytona Beach.

This is awesome. Off to check your youtube, and see if she's alive!! I just wound up with an LJR that's becoming the foundation for my 81 scrambler.

After a long delay, this is finally back on track. The CJ8 went over to a friends house (Dan) who has highly capable and has a lift to do the frame swap. Kudos and a big thanks to him for taking this project on and keeping it rolling.

We pulled the front clip off, unhooked most everything before taking it over to his house. He has pulled the old frame and drivetrain out. LJ frame and drivetrain is now under it and doing all alignment of the body mounts. I purchased the body mount brackets from Jeremy at Throttle down Kustoms.

As he noted, the body mounts technically have a 1" body lift built into them because the tub has to clear a couple of places higher than the stock CJ8 frame. I had a LJ daystar 2" body mount kit already sitting here from something else. We are not going to use the full 2" and just trim the bushings back down to 1" in attempt to get the body down closest to the frame as we can. The rear coil buckets clear the rear fender wells fine. The front fenders had to be clearanced to clear the coil buckets. The front center grill mount is sitting up fairly high from the frame but he is still trying to get the tub down just a little closer to the frame so hopefully the front can come down some too.

Mainly getting the major mounts aligned up on the frame first. Then will do the rear frame extensions on the rear of the frame. I have 2 straight sections fo TJ frame rails to add to the existing LJ frame and then the CJ rear crossmember will be added with the rear body mounts on the cross member.
