1982 Scrambler in Utah

I was driving the CJ today and really just want to fill the radio hole. Is there a source, or was there ever a blanking plate for these? A radio or plate would be equally sufficient. I tend to not listen to radios when driving my classics. I prefer to hear what they have going on, cause sadly there is always something! Lol!

There was a radio delete plate.

I know a couple on here have been interested in the 40. This is how the paint came back.

I need to work a bit more on the 8. The clear is failing so contemplating a more “aggressive” approach and having a body shop address it, since I am a novice with paint I would be devastated to ruin what the CJ has going on with its originality.

Toyota 653 Olive is one of the best shades.

Toyota paint is also VERY long-lived (it's the built-in Toyota rust that destroys the paint from the bottom up). Our 72 FJ40 had original paint until just a few years ago when it underwent a frame off with all new paint. Much of the paint still buffed out to look nearly new 51 years after Mr Toyoda applied it. Their lacquer is second to none.

You can still get original mirror heads from Toyota or from www.sor.com
 
2.5” BDS CJ lift with 1” shackles (sadly). Not sure how I feel about it yet but am driving the CJ and see how it settles out. I figure I will put some weight in it over the winter to see if it settles a bit as well. 8C0D323C-7199-4F69-A889-79A9D2928490.jpeg
 
Good morning Andrew. Love the originality of your Scrambler. You had mentioned reviving your old paint as much as possible. I wanted to share what I had really good luck with.


A lot of people will just try polishing through the 40 year old dried out paint, which is what happened with mine and past owner/s. And mine isn't even original paint, but is single stage.

In my thread there is a fantastic article on AutoGeek about using Meguiar's #7 to add oils to the dried out paint and polish the paint without using abrasives. It really worked wonders for my paint!

An update to the fleet. A dream rig that a friend has owned since 2005, and I have known about and wanted since 2008 or so. Last week a deal was done and I have added yet another project to the fleet. 1982 2 door Range Rover Classic 4 speed v8 with A/C! 06B0AE26-F10E-4F75-ADA5-5511A354D402.jpeg
 
A friend of mine in Australia used to say "The more you play with Rovers the more you'll love your Land Cruiser...."
 
Aren't they all aluminum? Thought when I was in school in 1992 the only girl in it was rebuilding one.
Much of the skin is yes but there is also steel involved.

@Chamba ah yes the friendly marque banter between the brands. I think the Rover appeal for many is it has a rich history in exploration around the world. Series Rovers were used extensively, and 2 door classics were used to cross the Darien, Camel Trophy, etc. I do so appreciate Cruisers for what they are as well. In fact if you watch the 1982 CT, 45’s were support trucks and it shows a Classic dragging what appears to be an overloaded 45 out of a ditch. Here is to hoping I get this Classic and my 40 in useable shape this year. If not I guess the 8 will see more miles!
 
These are the type of Rovers I grew up around, more used than these examples. I always thought they were pretty cool. The newer ones remind me more of mall crawlers or hipster mobiles. Yes 3.5L. Series Rovers are definitely not for everyone and in my long term Series ownership opinion, less useable than the others. Mostly due to the 4 cylinder and ergonomics. Sadly regardless of the marque cool old 4x4's are getting tarted up for the people that have more money than sense.

There is a Youtube - Hayden Jones that uses his S2a off road in NZ it has a Toyota 4 cylinder diesel in it. There is also a 2 door Classic that tags along. If nothing else his content is worth watching for the amazing scenery!
