1984 CJ8 RHD Alaska Postal Scrambler

Aaron emailed me and asked me to mock up a color scheme for him, I'm happy to do that but my only requirement is that we post the results, so here's what he asked for and my interpretation of it.

Aaron, if this isn't correct, let me know and I can update it.

Since you appear to be very capable of whipping out concept photos of just about everything imagineable...

I wonder... Could you color both a YJ Clip and CJ Clip World Top with a tan color (like late model FJ Cruiser or desert storm tan) Color it all over the body with that color. Then color the roof above the rain gutter with white (just like euro mini and FJ)

Then install dark charcoal grey color rocker guards and crusher corners and same color teflon coated American Racing Mohave wheels and charcoal color grille.

Last would be a set of lime green pinstripes that follow the body line on the door, and run down the side of the tub just below the seam between the top and the tub....

How the hell do you do that so fast??

Thanks...

I like the euro top color scheme.

I'm thinking darker charcoal color, and larger crusher corner side like bigwaltons, and perhaps lime/charcoal SCRAMBLER decal on the hood.

And maby the no window version??

Other possibility would be tone, with most of the Jeep being a very light non metallic green color like the blue of that guy who just got his tub back.... and the white on top... Still with the charcoal grey or black armor/bumpers, and the lime green pinstripe.

Are you thinking about the Gen-right fenders? I do not know what your plans are for the thing, but it seems as though you certainly could put on some heavy duty fenders like that or Poison Spyder Customs, and have the nice look but also have the added protection.

Progress Halted

Sorry guys,
It is not happening as fast as I wish that it would! I've been terribly unemployed, and the thought crossed my mind 2-3 times that I should sell this Jeep to make a few thousand dollars.... Then I go spend an evening with a wrench in my hands taking things apart piece by piece, labeling stuff, boxing up things I'll need to re-use etc, and I realize that while the ultimate finished product will require thousands and thousands of dollars that I can spend a ton of time for free working on making little things really nice.

Right now I have most of the sheet metal dissassembled and removed. I have been soaking the frame/tub mounting bolts for 3 months with penetrating oil so that I can get them out without breaking any of them.

In the next few weeks I hope to have the major part of the tear down completed, and a pile of parts ready to take to the restoration body guy to get started fixing things.

I cant tell if the fenders that are on this Jeep are the origionals or not. I suspect that they are because the under coating matches what is sprayed onto the rest of the Jeep (that looks like it was applied in 1984) Both of the front fenders are crinkled on the very front, but I like the idea of hammering them back into shape and re-using them to keep the Jeep sheet metal as close to origional as possible? But perhaps that is a waste of money and replica fenders will be purchased in the future. (Suggestions on brands?? Quality?? Fit??)

I am 100% going with the desert tan (using new JK paint code for base/clear) color scheme, with a white roof top above the rain gutter, charcoal grey body armor, and a Lime Green pinstripe scheme (I know Chrysler beat me to the lizzard scheme with the Mojave model decals) but I'm sticking to what I once wanted to do!!

Basically I'm just stalling over $$$ but I will get this finished!!

Seperated at birth

Okay, so here I am working on my Postal, broke and unemployed, same as you. I took the whole thing apart over the last two years, every time I came for a week or so from the middle east. I had the hood, windshield frame, fenders and back door done at a local body shop. At first they were pretty good on the price. Then they got greedy and after sandblasting the doors and two side panels, they wanted 2100$ to do small repairs (door cracks), prime and paint. compaired to the what I paid for the others, I flipped out and took my parts and ran. At the end of may, I had enough of the war, military contracting, missing my kids, working 14 hours a day 7 days a week, and the drama, and I quit, they refused to fly me home, ship my tools, or basicly anything. I paid my way back home, and went to looking for jobs. After a whole bunch of apps, I have had 5 interviews, and one call back for a second. I am broke, but I am home and see my kids.

The frame is together, wheels on, engine in, fuel tank in, body started. and parts scattered around the house, and in storage unit. I am also using the jeep as a stress reliever. Anyway,I just wanted you to know, you are not alone, and DONT SELL THE POSTAL, you have at least one spare kidney, ebaying junk, and generic Top Ramen, does not taste that bad, LOL. Keep up your chin, it will work out, and you will get a job

I know, I need to post pics, cant figure that out, Is there someone I could email pics too, and do a post with?
