are all cj-8's scramblers?

And to me my CJ-8s are scramblers and my scramblers are CJ-8s.

This is true... Except for Postals, they are the red headed step child and their owners should be beaten over the head with a mailbox.

:rotfl:

I have always been courious where the CJ 8 label came from. I was interested the Scrambler from the day it hit the market. I bought mine in 1983 new from the dealer. I never saw any thing from day one about a CJ 8. I do not remember ever seeing any Jeep ad for a CJ 8. It was much later that I started hearing "CJ 8" used when referring to the Scrambler. Does any on realy know if Jeep actually used the CJ 8 officially other than internally to Jeep?

I always thought it was "slang" term for the Scrambler as in CJ2, CJ3, CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, Scrambler ops should have been CJ8 then came the Wrangler, Unlimited ETC. Same thing here I have never seen and ad for a "YJ" or "TJ" or "LJ" or even JKU or JK, I could be wrong and missed something along time ago.

I went to get parts from the Jeep dealer for an "LJ" and he told me no such thing existed it is a wrangler long wheel base.

Just something I have always wondered about.

Don makes a compelling argument in that most, or all, the literature simply states "Scrambler" and not CJ-8. My brief review supports this, and even the maintenance manual shows "CJ-5, CJ-7, Scrambler" on 1981 Jeep CJs.

You just have no idea when to quit.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why some members want me to stop writing responses regarding the OP's query. Is there some fragility involving the classification between CJ-8 and Scrambler, with which I am unfamiliar?

None of which is counter to the argument that they're all CJ-8s. TJs, LJs, JKs have no other badging, Scramblers got CJ-8 badges from the factory. When the factory put both CJ-8 and Scrambler on there, they answered the original question.

Jersey hit the nail on the head.

I'm going to find something to hit with a mailbox.

Canadian TJs got a TJ decal from the factory. This was my on 2003 that I bought brand new. I added the flames because I couldnt really hot rod it..

Technically, I cannot write with any certainty that I've ever viewed an OEM Jeep that included both Scrambler decals and CJ-8 badges on the same rig. I know neither of mine have such, and only include Scrambler hood graphics and AMC badges on the rear corner. Therefore, the jury may still out, and the OP's original query still remains unanswered beyond a reasonable doubt.

Does any member have any documentation showing an original Scrambler or an original CJ-8 that shows both identification marks?

Hum....

CJ-8 Scrambler Registry

"One Purpose: locate all CJ-8 Scramblers, Postals and Overlander/Exports still in existence."

Now my head hurts. Is it a big red Scrambler or a red big Scrambler? Is it a CJ-8 Registry or a CJ-8 Scrambler Registry that includes Postals and Overlanders or are the......:ZZZ::ZZZ:

"For any new(er) enthusiasts, I'd like to first clarify that Scramblers are not the only CJ8 ever made, it's merely one of two versions that was released here in the United States and Canada...the other being the right-hand drive Alaskan Postal Units (U.S only). This thread could also cover the other CJ8s released elsewhere thoughout the world, often given different names or built slightly different but on nearly identical platforms.

•Scrambler - 1981-1986 United States, Canada
•Alaskan Postal Unit - 1984 Alaska, CJ8 topped with a World Cab, U.S only
•Mahindra - India/Africa
•Storm - Israel
•Long CJ7 - Venezuela 1983-1986
•Long Wrangler YJ8- Venezuela 1987-1995
•Overlander CJ8 - Australia
•Jeep CJ8 - Mexico"

What the heck is a Long Wrangler?

This is some interesting information from the guys over at JeepForum.com, and thanks for posting it. This makes sense from a logical stance, and follows AMC's Jeep CJ numbering format along with their special package names. Also, those guys over at JeepForum.com are known to be credible resources.

Since no one has asked yet, I will, what about the Scopions? Are all Scramblers Scorpions? Are all Scorpions Scramblers? ;)

Just having fun here guys.

I don't know if all Scramblers are scorpions but this one certainly is :
