bigwalton's Postal Stroker

Plugging away at getting the 4.0 loose and the Mopar stuff out. The wheel dollies from @dmorolli are absolutely MONEY and are going to make all of this so much better than when I did the 4.0 swap. :bacon:

Something odd that felt really big happened this afternoon. Y'all may laugh but when I did the speedhuts I disconnected and tied up the stock speedo out of the way.

Yanking it out today felt really huge to me for some reason.

Do I need to find time to come up and help? You gotta have it ready for the Nat'ls....

Unfortunate update on multiple levels:

1) I haven’t done much else on this since the last post. I did get the intake opened up to match the bigger TB. (The fisheye effect makes it look like it’s not fully there, but it is)

That’s really it for any progress. Kid came home one weekend I was going to be out there and Kate’s renegade needed brakes all around which turned into quite the learning experience on newer electric e-brake vehicles and required finding a new external torx socket I didn’t own.

2) Wed night/Thurs morning I got a lot of belly pain that turned out to be appendicitis. Thursday as a whirlwind of Dr visit/CT scan/ER/surgery to get out what ended up being a partially perforated angry appendix.

Feeling much better and home, but the surgery is going to keep me from much anything of use in the garage aside from pecking at some small stuff.

We were slated to head up to open the dune house Thursday evening, so at least it happened here near the UM hospital and not up there where we would have been stuck dealing with this away from home.

No chance of the National (never really was) and I’ll write off Sandblast now for sure too. Just too many “while I’m in there” things I want to do.

We’re in for the long haul now! :bacon:

Let’s dance.

Started under the dash today… this is going to take all the patience I can muster  particularly trying to do it laying on the floor because I really don’t want to pull the dash with the cage going through it.

The years of additions… many back when I didn’t know what I was really doing (wire nut FTW!)

Big part of this will be thinning out the new harness for the unneeded circuits now.

Yeehaa, but any progress is good.

One of my worries with this was the differences for RHD. My fuse block is more centered and the wiring harness splits left and right just above the block.

New:

I’m going to completely cut apart the new harness and rework it to match the old one. That will also allow me to add new weatherpack pins for the speedhuts and get rid of a couple circuits I don’t need (oil pressure, gauge sockets (one will become the dimmer feed to the Speedhuts), etc.

One thing I hadn’t realized, this harness has a relay setup built in for high/low beam headlights, so that will eliminate the one I made up. :bacon: and will clean up some of the engine bay.

I sat and compared these for a solid hour and a half. I need to go back at it with fresh eyes.

There’s a LOT that I don’t need in the new one. Before I start undoing the zip ties, I’m going to need to identify everything surplus and try to sort out where I’m grabbing what I need for the gauges.

Thinking that the rear body harness plug is going to have to be lengthened to get across the firewall. That harness is on the left as usual, but the box is across the Jeep on this.

Ok, cleared up a ton of my confusion… needed to read through their circuit descriptions (read the instructions?!?)

I was comparing this to the OEM thinking it was apples to apples and it’s not. They have some interesting ways that they did things differently and you can’t compare it to the OEM to try to figure out what’s what.

Now I’m getting very stoked. It’s going to be hard to sleep tonight. I want to print out their instructions to start marking things up.

There’s a circuit for the stock fog light switch with a relay, I can pull the trigger out for that and repurpose it for another use to eliminate a relay in the engine bay.

Plenty of unused grounds to pull for the Speedhuts. Thinking of making a ground harness from the fog light switch ground for them. Same with B+ and ign feeds.

Definitely going to have to lengthen their rear body harness wires. But there are two extra rear harness wires they supply for fused B+ to the rear end (power outlet or any other use) and a wire that feeds on into the engine bay to set up on a relay for rear lights or something (relay not included though).

I am GEEKING out now…

I have a couple things to add to this but I just came across a video that locked in my PWM setup for the dual Contour fans I run. Made a separate post about it because it's a VERY interesting video for those running/thinking about the dual Contour fans:

Thanks to this video, I'll be running the PWM feeds from the Teminator X to two Holley NOS solid-state relays that are capable of 1000Hz switching:

I'll wire them to the Terminator with connectors near the relays, leave my existing temp switch in the upper radiator hose and make up a jumper so that I can switch back to basic temp control if there were ever a problem with the Terminator X PWM setup. Hopefully doing that will mean that I never have to use it, right??

I've also got the under-dash harness from AAW completely de-loomed. It wasn't very "loomed" as you saw, but I actually like that given how much I'm pulling out or repurposing. I've eliminated a number of connectors already and pulled out a good amount of wire. I have a nice crimping tool on the way today to start shortening some wires with new connectors and once I have things semi-set, I'll put it back in to sort out the wire lengths that go to/from my "other" stuff.

I plan to make a post on what I ended up doing with the AAW setip to make it work for me. With the Speedhut gauges and the speedo being GPS and not needing a VSS (built into the AAW harness) there are SO MANY free "through-firewall" wires to repurpose and all of the illumination wiring for the stock gauge bulbs has to come out (speedhuts are on their own dimmer in the dash).
