boxes of parts to become an '82 scrambler

I installed some gauges, indicator lights, the steering column, and brake. I need to find foam gasket replacements for the heater box then I will get that in.


 
There is a worn out foam gasket that goes between the air intake duct and the heater box. And there are torn up foam seals on the flaps inside the box. I haven't been able to find specific replacements. Do people typically just cut what they need from a foam sheet and glue it in?


 
Thanks Jammer1. I like your thread. Lots of good pictures. You really know what you are doing. Yes the foam you cut out on Picture 2 is one that is torn up. On picture 3 you have foam on both sides on that swinging door. I should probably cut a piece for both sides of that as well. Where did you get the foam? The gasket that goes between the upper duct and the lower duct is a different kind of foam - more neoprene like than the open cell foam inside the ducts. Thanks for your help.

The neoprene one I was lucky and was in good condition. PM me your address and I'll send you some cut ones. When I did the 2nd box I made a few extra (had the template). You have to buy it in sheets and If I remember was around 30 to 40 a sheet (mostly shipping). But theirs enough to probably do 6 or 7 boxes.

I got these button connectors from Digikey. They are perfect for the light socket wire connectors.

Also finished the dash wiring. After I took this picture I also installed the pull knobs.


 
I also had to figure out the engine wiring harness for a Chevy 5.7L TPI. Got that installed with only one plug that I don't know where it goes. If it is important, I think the computer will tell me what's missing when I get it started.


 
Sorry for the delay, 13 hr days have been killing me this summer. Lookin good.

Engine wiring is done. There is one plug on the engine harness that I can't find a connector for on the engine. Maybe it's not important.


 
I was missing a few wires for ignition power for the ECM. Got it taken care of now and was able to start it today. I purchased the jeep in a thousand pieces and have never seen it run. Feels so good to see the engine running. Still have a ways to go, but it's so nice to get to this milestone.

I am terrible at posting build updates. The electrical is complete, brakes work, engine works, transmission works, transfer case works, just have to install a few things and I'll see if it will drive. The radiator cap interferes with the hood, so I need to fix that. Maybe I can lower the radiator...

Real nice. My radiator is too high on my 7, the support rod pops out every time I close the bonnet, er, hood. :rolleyes:
