Bringing An(other) Overlander Back Home II

The mat was a fun project that only took an afternoon. Here's a couple pics of the new bed mat with comparison to a factory. Notice the larger upper arms and then how it fits better in this Overlander.

Seat belt restoration. There is a guy that sells the stickers on Ebay advertised for VW Things but the exact correct size for these TRW non-US seatbelts. Identical to Jersey's work 8-9 years ago. Will do this for the Blue Overlander too.

Nice work ! Really like the Overlander but I'm not sure I could handle the driving on the wrong side of the vehicle. Just me. Been wanting to clean and paint my hood catches maybe. What did you use ?

Having planned to drive mine back across the country, this scared the hell out of me when I went to buy it. It was SO much easier to get used to than I ever dreamed.
 
So weird about those rollbar feet.

And can you share what you started with to cut that mat?
 
I don't have the before pictures of these tail light brackets but they were fairly faded with surface rust. It surprisingly took a long time sanding, painting and re-installing. Extra time because someone had changed the brake/turn signal fixture with an aftermarket set, and I had to do a little re-wiring and figuring out what bulb/wire went to brake, running and signal. Definitely some trial and error and a couple blown fuses. NOS lenses and just cleaned the reflectors.

Looks amazing.

Someone is gonna buy an awesome Jeep. This one, while not a stock example, is just about perfect. Would fit in well at a car show, but not so perfect you would be afraid of daily driving it. I personally think this is the sweet spot in condition.

It looks even better in person!

Thanks. I tested 3-4 different spray paints. Some people say Eastwood Argent Silver Wheel Paint but I thought that had a little too much gloss. I found that Rustoleum High Heat Flat Aluminum matched my really low mile 1985 Laredo better than anything else.
 
And can you share what you started with to cut that mat?

I tried very hard to find a universal rectangular bed mat that just had parallel lines (like factory) and did not have the diamond plate running down the two sides. Saw this one and ordered the 60" x 84" version:

However, it came with the diamond pattern running down the sides even though the picture doesn't have them. A little disappointed because I spent at least 2 hours looking for a diamond-free mat. Letchcore used the Westin 50-6325 bed mat which looks identical and used to be Prime on Amazon but now looks unavailable. You basically want to find one 5' by 7'.
 
Awesome sauce. I’ve seen it in person also and would be very very tempted to purchase regardless of already having way too many jeeps

Regarding the roll bar , it’s a phenomena of the early ones. Tommys white one now sold I recall had the early bar and after doing some vin analysis on several others over in Oz i came to this conclusion. I would guess 70-80 percent of overlanders, which roughly were produced for about 15 months, had the later common bar.

However, I have decided to sell Red in the near future. The garage probably doesn’t need two Overlanders, and I’ve had fun working on it over the last 9 months. It’s gotten more attention than all my other Jeeps combined during 2020. Time to look for a new project. This is not a listing but stay tuned as I’ll post it up here first to keep it in the family.

Curiosity is getting the best of me with this line forming of interested buyers. What kind of price range does a Jeep like this fall into? It's not like there are a bunch of previous sales of Overlanders in the US. Are we talking like $15-25K, $25K-35K or over $35K? Best of luck with the sale.

The early Overlanders are definitely similar to a CJ7. The rollbars are CJ7-size 2.5" diameter, and the front feet mount on the side of the bed and the lower floor just like a CJ7. The back is stretched and the rear feet mount exactly where the normal Scrambler rollbar mounts. The later Overlander roll bars are exactly like a normal Scrambler: 3" diameter and mount up on the bed.

I think the "early" Overlanders are 1983 production models (like my 2 and ag4ever's) that didn't make it over there until 1983-84. The "later" ones like Jersey's is a 1984 production year. No idea why they did this. Maybe Aussie safety protocols were familiar with the way the CJ7 roll bar mounted but unsure about the Scrambler mounting.
