D44 fun

Had some fun today playing with the new front axle... traded a set of lift shackles for a late 70's NT Waggy 44.

It was at the shop where I'm going to have the f/r gears set, so I just tore it down there to cut the labor I'll be paying for setting the gears. All of the various parts look really good, but I'm replacing all of the bearings/seals/etc. anyway. I did the ball joints while I was there, which i didn't think I'd get to (well, I was 2 hours late coming home...:D) but since he had them in stock on the shelf and had a nice press it made it easy.

I dropped off my HD20 while I was there and I should have these back inside of two weeks and maybe even next weekend! WOOT!

I had to take a pic of this, it's a future tow rig/camper for the shop owner... duallie rear end. Looks like a Chevy HD mated with the Ghostbuster's wagon. Inside it has 4 captain's chairs and a spacious back area with a couch/bar that he's going to convert into a bed and storage for clothes. He wants to lift it a little and throw a solid front axle and a transfer case in it to make it 4WD... I thought it would be pretty sweet (with a new mural on it)...

Love that thing! kinda looks like a 58 chevy in the front.Love the tag! "Lost In The 50's" :D

If the camera wasn't full, I'd have taken interior pics... it's kind of a pimp mobile as it sits.

The other side has three of those doors for unrestricted access to the back end.

Only problem I saw is that you couldn't set it up with a gooseneck.

WOOHOO

Just got the corners and rockers!!

I thought the Scrambler stuff was on backorder for a couple weeks... but I ain't complaining!!!

One word: BEEFY!!

Oooops. Now I am complaining... they sent CJ-7 rockers

So much for trying to fit them up today...

More parts...

The RE 4.5" kit showed up and I got the CORRECT Rocker Knockers today.

Pics to come this weekend, I might get to test-fit the rockers too. Probably need the top off before the corners get installed though.... looks like it would be a LOT easier.

Ummm...yes. Makes it *much* easier to clamp them in place and put the bolts in.

My thoughts exactly... I'll probably just go ahead and pull the top where it sits to get them installed and then reinstall it and haul it out to my summer storage spot in my brother-in-law's barn once it's running again. :D

The AXLES have landed (and left)

Just got back from picking up the axles... Detroits and 4.56 gears all set up :D

My old axles left for their new home in TX this week too...

Late night and a long week... pics to come.

I have been watching this thread but how did I miss the Checker cab. That thing is nuts.

Glad to hear the Postal is on it's way back to recovery.

Man wouldn't that thing make a SWEET tow rig and camper! :D :D :D

Ouboarding progress

I slapped the winch mount on tonight along with the front bumper in order to mock up the front brackets to outboard the spring hangers.

I managed to get something that looks like it will work after grinding down one weld (from the accident repair) and cutting off the rivets on the lower front corners of the front crossmember. Looks like I'll have to take off the steering box to weld things up on the right side  Not looking forward to that...

Went out to take pics of the mocked up cardboard brackets only to find that Kate had drained the camera battery...

I found a local guy that will cut out 1/4" plate for me if I provide the templates... so now I just have to work on the spring hangers in the rear and get him those too. Talked with the welder friend again and he's all about coming over to buzz these together once we have some steel!

Finally making some progress after not laying a hand on it myself in a while!!! :D

Where are all the pics...geez. You have a very bad words to pics ratio here...and your camera works...you have no excuses. Dump those pics, get a new memory stick, whatever...but you have some catching up to do. Your axles that came back, all that fun stuff you ordered...come on man.

Not when the only proprietary rechrgable battery is dead. ;)

That's why I preferred my old camera that took AAs.

I'll get them up here tonight.

I was starting to wonder if this thread had died....along with your poor jeep...

Come on man...get to work and quit goof'n off! :D

oh, almost forgot...

Don't laugh, I left the pieces rough on purpose and figured that I'd shape them with the grinder after they're cut out.

Kinda flimsy lookin' to me...

Hey Eric,

I hate to be overly critical here - cuz I know you've spent alot of time & effort towards this..., but... those brackets are a mite on the 'un'-manly side, don'tcha think? (To be perfectly honest, I think my 8yr old could do as well w/ some cardboard-n-scotch tape.)

I just hate to see you disappointed in it's performance and/or longevity once on the trails.

Just my .02...

:D :D :D :D [I'm gonna pay for this one, aren't I?]

Hey, I'm thinking duct tape might hold up on the trail better than scotch tape. You might go with thicker cardboard too, it might weigh more, but not as much as steel. Consider some glue too..... :D

You think??? I was sure that was going to be plenty. I stepped up to the cardboard and scotch tape from construction paper and glue!

I'll get you tomorrow Jerry... I'll just have to hope one of them fish pulls Lee into the ocean for a nice dip.;)
