To be sure someone will backout by then....Also, it always seems that last minute suprises always keep a few from making it......If all else fails I'll just go up and try to catch a ride....two if Chip goes again....three if my bro still wants in......I'll also pull the eight to see if by chance I can sneak in if someone is a "no-show".....

Man, I'm really slack about this thing....I wish I had as much free time as my brother to get things done!:D Seems like he's always on vacation!:p
 
Plan on coming

Hey guys, plan on coming. They would like you to buy the meal tickets and possibly some raffle tickets, you can buy both after you get there. If it's possible or there is some dropout, they will try to add you into the trailrides.:D We should have a big group, this is great :) .
Lee, I have them checking to see if you are in, I couldn't get an immediate answer.
 
WOOHOO! I got my flight moved back to Monday, so I'm clear to stay the night on Sat.! Took long enough... makes me feel much better about things, I didn't want to have to drive home in the dark late Sat. night with a belly full of chili,dogs and burgers...

Party on!
 
Coming in Fri nite & camping w/ family

The Rupert clan (pappy, momma, 3 kids and maybe dog) will be arriving Friday evening w/ intention of camping. This will be our first 'wheeling' event... and I'm feeling woefully unprepared. I hope you fellas have a lot of pity/sympathy for us newbies.

Nonetheless, ready or not, we're coming - my boys would not let me out of it if it ends up killings us all!

While I have been out past the location once before, can anyone provide some directions or maybe a map? I'd hate to get lost on our first attempt.... (But, if it can be done, I'm the one who'll do it!)

Looking forward to meeting all of you and making some new friends.

From Last Year

This is from last year, I edited the dates and info. a little for this year, so it may not be 100% correct. The host club will e-mail pretty much the same thing to everyone attenting up-dated for this year.

The event will be held at Oak Ridge Estate, in Nelson County, VA. You may arrive to set up camp anytime after 2 p.m., Thursday, October 2. There will be no trailriding Thursday! We will start registration Friday (October 3) morning at 8 a.m. at the staging area. Bring your can of chili, one per vehicle!! Be gassed up and aired down! Driver's meeting is at 9 a.m., we will draw the first poker card, and hit the trails soon after. Bring your own lunch to eat on the trail. We will trail ride all day and drawn more poker cards throughout the day. We will be done riding and be back to the camping area at around 4:30 p.m. Dinner is provided Saturday night and will take place around 5 p.m. After dinner we will determine the winner of the Poker Run and give out the cash! The Door Prize Raffle will take place after that. We have good prizes this year! Don't forget to bring your marshmallows for the campfire.

PLEASE NOTE: Some of the trails at Oak Ridge are not full-size vehicle friendly. The trees are VERY tight in places. We will do everything in our ability to accomodate you on as many of the trails as possible.

Directions from the north, east and west:
1. Get to Charlottesville, VA at the intersection of I-64 and Route 29 the easiest way for you.
2. Take Route 29 south (30+ miles) past Lovingston, VA.
3. Turn left onto Route 653.
4. Saturday morning staging area is on the right at the intersection of Route 653 and Route 688.
5. For camping on site, follow Route 653 for 1.5 miles and bear right at the fork in the road (staying on Route 653).
5. Cross bridge over railroad tracks.
6. Camping spot is in the first field on your right.

Directions from the south:
1. Get to Lynchburg, VA the easiest way for you.
2. Take Route 29 north (27+ miles) past Colleen, VA.
3. Turn right onto Route 653.
4. Saturday morning staging area is on the right at the intersection of Route 653 and Route 688.
5. For camping on site, follow Route 653 for 1.5 miles and bear right at the fork in the road (staying on Route 653).
5. Cross bridge over railroad tracks.
6. Camping spot is in the first field on your right.

This event will go on rain or shine. There will be Porta-potties at the camping area. No showers will be provided. WE ARE ONLY ALLOWED ONE FIRE RING IN THE CAMPING AREA - PLEASE COMPLY! Don't foget to bring your lawn chair.

what to do with trailers

I may be pulling a 30 ft. gooseneck....what should I do with that? Should I plan on leaving it elsewhere, or taking it on in to camp?
 
Take it to camp........

Take it to camp, plenty of room there. If you want to leave it elsewhere, the staging area is separate, you will pass it coming in. You could leave it there, It will be on your right, about a 1/4 mi. after you turn off of Rt. 29.
 
If You Aren't Registered.......

If you aren't registered/ haven't received a confirmation you need to e-mail the host club at FirstColonial@aol.com.
Or if you have not as yet responded to the confirmation letter with the Year, Make, Model and License number of ALL vehicles that you will be bringing to Oak Ridge, please do so now.
Please remember that they need this information for your trail rig as well as tow vehicles if applicable. Also, if you plan on having frinds join you to ride with you and they will be bringing their vehicle to the staging area or camping area, they need the information for their vehicle as well.

Hello all-

Sorry for my long absence...lost power for (only) 5.5 days not bad considering the damage around here from the hurricane, but my cable has been out (I use a cable modem for internet access) for 11 days! Just got it hooked up in my neighborhood again today!

Anyway, I'll be there either Thursday night or early Friday morning. I've got my Jeep running well again!

I'll have to leave Sat morning, but I'll look forward to spending Friday and Friday night with you guys. I'll be tent camping, so save me a spot!:D

Jerry, that can amount to a lot of stuff. I carry recovery equipment, winch, Hi-lift jack, straps, d-rings, tree saver strap, etc....Spare parts, axles, u-joints, yokes, u-bolts and straps. Tools to do repairs. Tire plugs and a full size spare. Cooler with food and drinks for the day. CB radio is good to be in touch with the rest of us. For this trip, you can count on the rest of us, so can see what you may want to carry in the future. Don't sweat it.
 
i've been to a couple of these things now and what you're going to find is, like John said, you don't have to worry too much with the guys that are going to be there but everyone should bring a minimum amount of stuff.

I don't have spare axle shafts (yet), but I consider the minimums to be fluids, u-joints & straps, spare, hi-lift, tow strap (no chain and no metal hooks) any spare parts you have and can fit, tools (I have a 3/8 rachet set with extensions and wobbles, assorted screwdrivers, metric and inch wrenches, tork sockets and drivers, a small sledge, and all my Jeep-specific tools), TOILET PAPER, bug juice, trash bags, tire pressure gage, bungee cords...

that's about all I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, you need to be sure that everything you have in the Jeep on the trail is secured. Any tool boxes or containers have to be at least strapped in.

Guess that's all I can contribute. This list just makes me realize how much work I have to do to get ready tomorrow night... sheesh :D

Dinner Fri. Evening (not @ Vito's)

How about meeting for dinner Fri. evening at the Lovingston Cafe`. (frankly, I'm over eating at Vito's for a while :p ). Any of you want to get together? If 5 or more say "count me in" I'll make reservations, but need to do it tomorrow. They have great food, prices for dinner should be $ to $$. Hey, you gotta eat some where..... it's Vito's (pizza/subs), Mickey D's, Food Lion, Sub Way, or the Lovingston Cafe`.

I assumed we'd be heading somewhere for a mass dinner.

Where is that cafe? in the Foodlion shopping center?

I don't care where we go, so count me in for anything.
