Whew!

Hey man,
Major bummer but I'm glad you have it in you to fix it.

Are you still looking for a frame by chance?

I am picking up a frame in Louisville this weekend. A whole rolling chasis in great shape. Now I need to source a column. Thanks again everybody for the support and encouragment.

Who are you getting the frame from in Louisville?

Don

A guy named Jeremy down at Moab 4x4. Mr. Beep had one similar and the prices were the same, It just happens that a long lost friend lives down in louisville and my wife and I are going to catch up with he, his wife, and new baby. So no offense Mr. Beep, I appreciate the response and support. I will probably see you at the Gravelrama swap meet.

Update

Well its been a busy 2 months since MOAB, and yet I do not have much to show for it. The rolling chasis has been torn down and any areas of rot have been cut out. I sourced a new steering column and grill. A buddy of mine is looking for my LS1 parts at a junkyard near cleveland that has alot of LS1 cars. This weekend I will pull the body off of the wrecked frame and tear down that frame. Hope fully I will be able to pull the axles and put them under the new frame and start fabing new motor mounts. Once that is all done it is off to Witt galvanizing. I think the $150 to galvanize is a pretty good investment. I'll get the guys in my shop to stamp out a new dash for me. I think I may take a different approach to make wiring and gauge hook up easier. I am also going to add some misc stuff to the cage and do new tube fenders and try to find a way to do rear tube fenders. The whole process right before MOAB was putting a strain on the marriage but now the wife is more involved and even helping me at the shop. She still does not understand what I find fun or relaxing about wrenching. She does want me to build her a jeep commando, but I told her she has to tell me exactly what she wants. Anyway, hope to have more to post soon

good luck with the rebuild. please take some pics and post them as you go with the fabbing and assembly so those of us with 0 fabbing ability can ask stupid questions.

:D

It was a beautiful job the first go around, I'm sure the second will be even better. I will be watching for you in Moab in 09!

update

Alright, I finally got some work done, but was pulled away from meeting my weekend goals by a family emergency (everyone is ok). I pulled the body off of the wrecked frame and gave everything a good looking over. There are dimples and waves in the frame all the way back to where the orignal muffler hanger used to be before the rear tire. I then spent the next couple hours removing all of the components off of the frame except for the motor, tranny, & t-case. It was kind of nice working with clean parts. I then marked the parts of the frame (mounts) I needed to keep and came up with a game plan on things to do differently when modifying the new frame. Looking at the wrecked frame also gave me good ideas as to where to add beef. I then loaded the wrecked rolling chassis and the new frame on to the trailer and was about to roll down to the shop to get some work done when the family emergency occured. So, all in all I made good progress. Unfortunately, I will not be able to touch the frame until after Thanksgiving. There will be other stuff to do in the mean time. Replace grille, steering column, brake situation, add more to the cage, rebuild the dash, etc.

Update

I got a lot done over the weekend. The new frame will be going out for galvanizing this week hopefully. When I get the re-rebuild done I am going to create a pdf file of the build and link it. There are too many sites to do builds on.

Items Complete:
- Patch rust and rot
- Replace rear cross member and add beef
- Fab new motor mounts
- Fab new tranny mounts
- Fab new front out board spring hangers
- Fab new slave cylinder mount
- Modify skid to be removable without dropping drive train
- Add reinforcing plates to the frame at motor and tranny mounts
- Position drivetrain and tack in place
- Pull drivetrain and finish weld

The #1 thing I have noticed - my fab skills have improved this time around.

Awesome, great to see the progress on the rebuild, congrats

Great news! Keep up the good work and let me know if there is anything I can help with.

update

I was able to drop off the frame on x-mas eve for galvanizing. I will get it back 1/7. In the mean time I will source a few items (alt., alt bracket, steering wheel, steering shaft), assemble the grill, pack up the hydroboost and send it off to vanco.

I've been thinkin about linking the front. Let me hear you thoughts on how and how much $.
