Losing faith

Yes...and you are touching on some very close issues. On one hand, I do have memories and cherish them. I would greatly regret selling my Scrambler...regardless of how depressed I may get about not driving it. I could easily handle a long term rebuild (and that would be what it would have to be...1-2years at least).

However, my wife doesn't understand my attraction to a rusty vehicle that just sits (especially when I have my great Grandfather's Chevy pick-up that does that already). She would never dream of telling me to sell it...but I get the nudges every now and then. Part of it is that the $$$ that vanished was supposed to accomplish 2 things. 1)new body on Scrambler and 2)rebuild 360 for Grandwagoneer. Well, the 360 is now rebuilt and will be dropped in next weekend. So, we will be a 2-car family again. I am sure this will alleviate most of her complaints. And if I park the Scrambler inside our detached garage...she won't see it anymore (out of sight out of mind).

Just the story of my life... Too many projects and not enough time or money :D

This thread reminds me of a crackhead asking his junkie buddies and dealer to talk him out of quitting. :D :rotfl: Just sayin...

No, this is a crackhead asking his buddy junkies to talk him into not quitting... :D

...If $3000 were invested in the DOW on March 9, 2009 when the market was at it's lowest point, it would be worth $4500. The market's up 50% from the low, not 100%. The second assumption is that the market will increase from this day another 50%... ...Invest, just have a longer outlook for return.

The theory noted above doesn't take into account the investment growth that can be experienced in the stock market during a declining economy. Options trading is one, somewhat simple, approach to experiencing profitable returns on investments, even as those stocks are depreciating in value. I'm sure that many folks have heard George Soros' name in the media over the past few years. This is a billionaire whom capitalized on depreciating governments, or specifically their monetary systems. His methods are beyond my understanding, but they can simply be used as an example of one of the many ways to make a profitable return during economic recessions.

With options trading, increasing the value of a person's investment portfolio is simple if one speculates correctly on a companies demise. :( This is meant to indicate that just because the market increases 50% during a cycle, doesn't mean that a person's investments are only limited to a 50% return (or vise-versa in a declining economy). If this weren't the case, I doubt that the stock markets would be so popular, as it would restrict most of the pleasure many folks enjoy with this type of "gambling".

DONT GIVE UP!!!!

I have to tell a lil story of my past weekend. It was my better halfs birthday so I booked a cabin near a local winery to spend a relaxing weekend with Kay. When it came time to leave she always wants to take the Scrambler (she calls it our personal escape pod) LOL

We have an amazing time and when leaving the resteraunt Sat night decide to find a local store to get supllies for the following day. A couple buttons on the GPS later and we are on a gravel road that turned into 6 mud holes and and an old logging road. The entire time we are going through this she is squeeling and giggling the whole time. We finally find pavement and a store and she hops out of the Jeep (which is now covered in mud) 4" heels and all still smiling and says . . . I think the Jeep and the GPS just wanted to go for a ride honey.

This is one of countless stories I have with the Scrambler be patient friend it will come in time. Until then drive it as others have suggeted to keep you in focus. Kay oftens asks for the Scrambler when she knows she is going to have a rough day, says it makes her feel better as soon as she gets in it. I always smile and say go ahead becuae it does the same for me. I daily drive mine most days and wouldnt trade it for the world friend.

Hope this helps friend.

This post (and the subsequent replies) is scratching me right where I itch. First off TWMATTOX. I feel it. I got my rig in 2001 with the intentions of doing an immediate rebuild. I found her as original as I could find with asperations of bringing her back to her exact factory spects. But due to the profits I was making in the stock market at the time, I couldnt bring myself to put the money in the jeep when I could make the returns I was getting at the time (Da@#my responsible nature). I just knew that the market would pay for the rebuild and THEN some.

Since then, the market lost the majority of my gains, my house dropped in value by 40% and I got laid off only to get hired back 10 minutes later at half time. I am still half time. I am frustrated at my lack of income, thrilled that my money is making money again and depressed that I cant bring myself to spend any money on my baby as she sits and rusts.

This spring after pulling it out of the garage, I got depressed too, knowing that another year would go by with the holes in the tub multiplying faster than the dow can multiply my money. I told my wife I was going to sell it. I didnt want to because the memories built around this jeep are truly priceless. But I just couldnt justify keeping it and watching die a slow death. I had made up my mind. I put it out by the road. When i came home from I found that my wife had driven back in the driveway. She had decided it wasnt for sale. :)

So here I sit ready to park it for another winter, only to find more holes in the tub next spring. I am still not ready to part with my money to fix her but the HOPE that someday I will again, keeps me smiling every time I drive it.

Hope and a truly good woman are outstanding things to have.

BTW Eric - when my wife lost her wedding ring in a lake training for the triathalon, I asked her if she wanted to spend the insurance money on a new ring or a fun vacation. She chose the vacation. So much for sentimental value :)

Scott, I can't quite tell how you feel, but that exactly proves my point in my opinion and is just what I was trying to explain. Once the ring that you gave her at your wedding is gone, another ring can't replace that. I'd have said the same thing if it was me.

I totally feel the same. I love sitting in my CJ8. The only driving I get to do in it is driving up the hill to get wood and plowing and man do I feel guilty for bagging on it. The rust since I got it is getting serious. If someone is going to save it they need to do it soon. I got about 3G in HD stock and am thinking of selling for what ever I get. Call me fickle but having some piece of paper in my closet saying I own 3G of HD stock is not cool. But driving....ahhh A driven scrambler on the road( Read not fully pimped) Is still hands down cooler and probably worth more than my stock thats going no were anyways. HAHA so thats the plan for next spring.

Today
I got to say I am really scared of getting it all apart and not putting it back together....

You're fickle.

Sounds like we need a "fickle, not fickle" survey post.

:)I think Pete may have misunderstood what "Real" had requested in his written post.
Call me fickle...
Either that, or Pete was just being contradicting, disruptive or generally negative, and trying to stir up trouble for himself. :D

By the way "Real", that's a nice looking Laredo you got there in your post! :smokin: How much height is in that lift shown in the second picture?

That would be a 4inch BDS lift also with their 1/2 inch lift shackles. so 4.5"
I probably could cram some 35's in there. Don't want to buy new rims and what ever else needs done. I want to drive it more on the street than crazy off road with it. Even thinking of dropping to a 3inch lift. But maybe if I put the shocks and my old school Bellevue winch on it might drop the front a little and bumper:) Want to keep the classic look.
