Moving to Ann Arbor, MI...

If you need a pit stop part way there anytime, give me a shout. We live 10 minutes off I-75, a mere 250 miles South of Ann Arbor.

Has anyone mentioned what's really going on here?? I think the Postal is exerting it's will, bringing you one step closer in a migration back to it's homeland!! :)

I found a position that would have worked for Kate at a lab in Alaska, it's not as far fetched as you'd think

Thanks for the offer, but we have the pit stop already. My Grandmother and Aunt live 15 minutes or so apart on either side of the Ohio river in WV/OH respecively, maybe a total of 10 minutes off I-77. It almost exactly splits the drive in half.

Michiganders don't have an accent until you cross the Mackinaw Bridge and turn left. In conversation, we stand out by ending our sentences with prepositions. :D

If you enjoy minor league baseball, you're ~1/2 way between the Toledo Mudhens and Lansing Lugnuts ballparks.

Moving to MI during early-mid winter isn't so bad of an idea. Your time will pass so quickly that before you know it spring will be here and you'll say, "that wasn't so bad."

I'll fit right in then with my y'alls and howdys

We're going to a Durham Bulls game for mother's day actually, so minor league ball is a plus. I've seen the Mudhens play the Bulls and the Richmond Braves many times.

I was actually talking to Kate tonight about adding a day to a wedding trip I'm making to Ohio the same weekend as the National :banghead: The wedding's near Cleveland and I figure I can get to DTW as easily/cheaply as Cleveland, spend Friday in A2 and then drive down for the wedding that evening.

I figure everyone up there will be at the national though, right?

Update: It's for real now...

We got a contract on our house last night, papers to be signed today. One of those good news/bad news things... they want us out by 10/31  At least the buyers are as ready-to-go as they can be with a closing on their current house on 10/25 and all the preapprovals.

Luckily for us, our immediate neighbors have moved out of their house into an old house they are renovating one town away. The place next door is not in ready-to-sell shape and they were going to work on it over the winter to sell in the spring. So, we worked out a deal to rent from them until we move and that takes A LOT of the stress off as we can just pack things up and get them over there and then get our PODS back to pack at a more leisurely pace (which was one of the advantages of using them anyway).

On the MI side, we've found a number of nice places with a clear first choice, so we'll be working on making an offer up there shortly after we have the check in hand. We're almost certainly going to end up in the woods just outside of Dexter MI.

Kate's working to finish up on a last paper and her thesis and I've managed to find some good prospects for my new office already, having had a number of meetings with different companies. I think I found my first hire up there and office space as well...

Finally, someone's coming to buy my Waggy on Sat, so it will be out of our way and we'll be packing like mad to get ready to move next door until we're ready for the real move at the end of Dec or first of Jan.

I guess things are falling into place pretty well (knock on wood) we are really thrilled about the contract. I was going to lower the price if something didn't happen this weekend and their offer is more than what I was going to lower the asking price to :D so can't beat that.

Michigan here we come.

I've got a brother, his wife, another brother and a sister all up there. My brother is a chem. engineer working in AA or A-squared as we like to call it, and my other brother and sister are attending UofM. I'm 45 minutes NE of there, but am up there alot. Unfortunately, I'm a mere Senior in HS, so not attending UofM yet. Next time I'm in AA, I'll need to stop by and get some encouragement to go the final step and by a 8.:D

Eric,

Congrats on your move!

I'll probably pass you on my way out. The family is now in Colorado and I'll be there for good around the second week of November.

It's good to see you getting what you want out of life. Dexter is a nice area, you'll like it.

Paul

Since I have the attention of the Michigan folk. I have a couple '8 rollbars, one with seat belt lugs and one without. Free for the taking. Call me at 313-289-5593

In spite of my profile, I'm in Michigan buttoning up the sale of my home here. so the bars are in Michigan, not Colorado

Nice one, never even thought of that! but I can't afford Showtime.
I don't have it either, but there are ways around that.

I can feel the love...

no worries on hijacking, who cares that we're talking about a cable tv show now in my thread about a major life decision and change... it's all good

I'm beginning to worry about our #1 choice in MI. It's a longer story than I want to type out, but a little while after we looked at it, they took it off the market to rent (most likely to our new neighbors if we get that house) so it's technically not for sale.

Our realtor has contacted the listing realtor who was going to get in touch with the sellers and see what they think. I'm hoping that the idea of having it sold (they listed it in May IIRC) would be enough to want to make them work something out instead of renting it.

This is a renovated farmhouse built in the late 1800s IIRC on a beautiful hill with great trees, a 6 car garage/workshop with full loft, a pole barn (dirt floor) of about 100x40' and a pool (which we actually don't want, but it's there) on just over 2 acres on a dirt road in the woods :D

I can't remember all of the details and the listing is obviously down... Kate's in love with the place and I'm in love with the garage/barn :smokin: We have NO business looking at this place, but the way the market is now up there, we could make this work.

We'll see, should hear more today one way or the other. Cross your fingers for us.

Heck yeah, everyone should buy Scramblers. Come over to our place for an hour and I'll have you out buying one within the week!

I thought this WAS a cable TV show!!:D :D

Anybody want some roll bars??

Seriously, Eric, Good Luck on your move.

What are you trying to say, Carl?

Seems that I hijacked his last for sale post on the Grand Waggy with news of my running purchase.

Then on this one we start talking about a TV show.

Thought Eric might be getting a little sensative?........

And BTW, good luck on the move and house search.

Carl
