Installing the BTB metal dash pad lockable storage.
They cut 3/4" holes that fit over dash bolts.
I decided to put 1/4 x 1" fender washers on the dash bolts so it would be mounted stronger.
All their mounting holes lined up perfectly :)

My hand too big to get dash bolts in so my helper installing:

Your helper is certainly dressed appropriately... will she be driving this Scrambler in a few years?

LOL...Daughter will be driving "Muddie Buddie" around as soon as all the bugs are worked out.

Leslie been driving Polaris RZR since age 7 and ready to give to her little sister.

Says be nice to have big motor, heat & A/C and not get mud on clothes & hair.

Really wants the LJ and has nicknamed it LJ = Leslie's Jeep

Due to the limited seasonal expected use of the Scrambler, I am thinking of an onboard battery maintainer.

I've been gradually switching from Optima to Odyssey AGM batteries.

I read not to charge AMG with traditional charger.

Don't really need high amp charger like this one, but all I can find for onboard AMG charger:

Any suggestions or thoughts?

That Minn Kota unit should be good and weather/water resistant.

I keep a couple of red tops on the $20 Schumacher maintainers and they do the job. Don't have the actual charger "on board" so to speak. I leave a pigtail on the battery and when I pull in to park I plug the tender into the pigtail.

I have couple of the Schumacher maintainers, they don't say they are correct for AMG batteries, so I can only assume they're not.
Went ahead and ordered the MinnKota charger, as it's labeled for AMG & Gel.

Streamlight flashlight charger mounted in BTB dash storage box.

Got steering column installed and wired it up ......... Houston we have problem.
When turn key I only have power to volt meter, nothing besides headlights work.

IMG_2644_zps2wiwmlkh.jpg

So I assume that this contraption that works with key is problem.
I have the key moving the rod and the 90 degree end of rod stuck in slot & mounted to column

Am I missing something on this?
First CJ that I've ever had with this rod / key gizmo.

Any tricks or tips on installing ?

See my response (post #6) to a similar issue:

It covers installation and adjustment of the switch/rod.

Pics are dead on that link. Would you post pics here?

Is there a bushing or does the actuator rod just stick in slot?

Any tips on adjusting the fore / aft of the gizmo?

I don't understand why it doesn't show up for you.

Some people in that thread could see them and others couldn't.

Let me locate the files and I'll reload and also PM them to you.

Thank You :)

I plan on shop time tonight so try to get this correct & working.

I had my 82 TSM out the other night, and it showed nothing about the remote rod ignition switch.

Looked in parts book this morning and see 3 different columns 81-83; 84 only; 85-86

Now have switched ignition functioning :)

Know why there are different procedures. There are different ignition switches.

I have the style on left, where rod goes into slot.

IMG_2647_zpspavani5g-1.jpg

So after reinstalling the column... drilled holes and got Tuffy under hood storage installed.
I've been looking at these for years but never bought one.
They sent 1" bolts which are too long to fit with their Z bracket.
And the uninstalled seal they sent really sucks.... so gotta find some U trim seal.
Got it keyed alike to other Jeeps and also got another lock assembly for BTB metal dash pad.
hole sawed it for cleaning then plugged it with Jeep floor drain plug.
It's pretty big size and will hold tool roll, hammer, ATF & oil.
Needed to get it now... so I could see exactly where to mount A/C drier.

All the electrical oem & accessories are in and working. No small feat :bacon:

Bluetooth radio with the Alpine small amp sounds pretty good so can crank it when

Lights and ARB compressor will only come on with key in acc or run positions.
Radio memory, factory clock & streamlight flashlight charger and 12V power port are hot all the time.

On board battery charger mounted.

Ordered a marine 115V plug for battery charger's extension cord.

Plan to mount it on Warn 8274 mounting plate just above the towed wiring plug.

Daughter is really enjoying shop time... must be cause she's ready to drive it :)

Careful measurements to center the hole saw, the plug fits.

I left the battery charge cable long so if needed could charge up something else with a 12V battery.

First of Feb and it was 81 degrees and sunny.

Flushed all the hoses and evaporator with flush gun.

IMG_8300_zpsz0ssn2mqjpeg-1.jpg

Evaporator installed.

IMG_5963_zpsvlwk7umijpeg-1.jpg

Used a NOS made in Japan Sanden 508 compressor with O-ring fittings made to use R12

Pulled vacuum and it held.

:fingerscrossed: that it's still negative 30 pressure when I get to shop this afternoon.

IMG_2722_zpszdfuo2np-1.jpg

Punch list is getting smaller and hope to bust it off Saturday.

A/C system held -30 for 24 hours... so it's good to go. :bacon:

So went ahead and pulled a deep vacuum for 3 hours.

Adjusted the alignment with tape measure.

Going to pull dizzy and pre lube the engine before busting it off tomorrow.

The light at end of tunnel is getting closer.
