I remember that tool! It's called a "Winch Lobster".

Bought tool in early 2000's couldn't remember name.
It was a Red tool .... so obviously had to have it. :headbang:

I was going to look for markings tonight, but looks like Randy remembered.

What I like about the tool is can make wire cable go all the way to ends of spool under tension.

Of course... It's not a have to have tool, but it's like having a pressure brake bleeder, works better.

I could of made the cable even neater, but plan on getting Mud Scrambler stuck soon :)

My mind holds a veritable plethora of useless information. It's only the important things that I can't remember!

Tested for front bump stop for length in ditch.

Need 4 1/2" to keep the 33.5" OD buckshot out of flares at full turn.

Had bought this stupid 1 mounting stud polyurethane bump stop years ago.
It's 4 3/4" length and will compress some.

Looked at it and figured out how to mount to frame using factory mounting holes:

Little surgery and this should work.

Hard to make yourself finish the little bugs once you have driven a build.

Especially when spring has sprung and so nice outside.

But daughters first drive... priceless

Back to work I go...

Underground railroad trail :

IMG_2854_zps2z3kcmba-1.jpg

My electrical problems were all related to the ignition switch. Replaced it and EVERYTHING works :)

Put hardtop on, the Jambo light bar barely clears top.

Daughter has driven it 5 hours of offroad time. First time ever driven automobile and hasn't wrecked it yet. :fingerscrossed:
She's already learned how to straddle ruts.
Knows how to lock hubs and put in 4LO & has climbed a few hills.
Think she is hooked for life :)

So it's almost finished, only thing I want to change is get rid of Rigid Dually's & replace with pair 18 x 3" lights on Jambo bar.
That means take all wiring out of inside of bar, so can weld on some tabs.
It was hard fishing all the wires thru inside of Jambo bar.
freakin Go Light has 12 pin connector.

And charge A/C

That looks awesome Dennis! Very quality build for a "mud Jeep"! Love that the daughter is driving and learning in an old Jeep! :headbang:

Just getting back from spring break with Jeep Jamboree USA Texas Spur @ Inks Ranch in South TX hill country.

Met Eric B. "Jambo" and another Scrambler owner Mike and his family on Trail.

Inks Ranch borders Enchanted Rock (hippie hollow) a TX Parks.
The huge ranch is beautiful and rugged.

Daughter wanted to take Mud Scrambler ( I had signed up LJ ) and I was thinking / hoping they would have some scenic ranch roads for easier trails.
Boy was I wrong... While absolutely beautiful, the trails are steep climbs, driving over boulder's and rocky ledges.
Got (had to) test out the rear bumper, dragged it too many times to count... it protected the body well.
Scrambler did really good.... even with the carb and thank goodness for automatic transmission, as I was able to gas and brake.

Youngest daughter's reaction after a steep off camber climb with ledge near top.
We went right after watching a JK slide backwards down cliff

Stayed at neat 1860's cabin in Castell, TX (population 8 ) right on Llano river. Good swimming hole at front door.

With winery in town, the General Store circa 1927 was reopened as was the Church and the old School was turned into community center of sorts.

General store always had something cooking and the smell of BBQ over mesquite made it a hard place to leave.

Looks great.

Love the flatbed trailer bridge. Those work great.

The bridge is actually a 70' flatbed train rail car.

Installing that was a feat of engineering in itself.
Trackhoe dug trench 4' deep x 20' wide
Then drilled 8- 18" wide by 16' deep piers.
10 yards of concrete on each side.
Left indention in concrete for the massive coupler to rest in (was easier than cutting them off)

Hauling & setting the rail car was another story... The oilfield drilling rig trailer was way overloaded.
Then the Cat 330 trackhoe couldn't lift the end on other side of creek, so had to get 2 hoe's.

The creek regularly gets out of banks and I've seen bridge 6' underwater.

So Muddie Buddie back in shop for rear wheel cylinders.

And charge A/C !

LOVE seeing this Jeep getting the use it was built for! Awesome!

Beaters are neater fo shor :)

Good Friday ride with tractor tire mud trucks.

Lots of winching and fun til Turbo 400 puked fluid and lost reverse.

Rear winch got workout getting thru the tight rut filled ATV trails.

Time teach daughter how to use pressure washer so can have transmission rebuilt.

Thanks Randy, I watched your Scrambler build long ago. And excited about late model J20 with modern HP :)

Dang! Must have been a heck of a workout! I always heard Turbo 400's were difficult to break!

It was several hours of being bound up in mud holes & I have a aux. trans cooler and goes thru radiator.
After long run with pedal to floor... it blew fluid out the dipstick and smoked, but fortunately no fire.

I haven't been back to shop to see if maybe there is just bunch of mud binding linkage up, but I'm never that lucky.
Drove from mud runs about 30 miles and last few miles it starting acting up more.... so thinking rebuild time.

I like the Jeep low with no lift, can go thru most anything I want to try.
The AMC 360 just doesn't have enough hp to really spin all 4 tires fast enough to clean tread.
It will until the trans shifts to 2nd then it falls on its face.

Daughter had blast, she's hooked on Jeep'n :)

Of course she drove and I pulled winch cable.
