Thanks guys! I dropped $70 at the car wash to use their pressure hose and other professional implements, got it home to do an oil change, and put the tiny baby tires on to drive it back into the garage. Now I'm just waiting on the phone call for the dyno appointment to really get the EFI tuned! I'll snap a pic with the baby tires the next time I take it outside; I would have before but it was dark out. (Which happens this time of year.)

I thought I was taking the family wheeling tomorrow, so yesterday I got my late Christmas present of new trail tools (Lowes has a great sale right now if anyone cares), and today was a partial garage day:

Fender flare replaced. Might have taken a hair too much off the front while trimming.

Also checked fluids and discovered a milkshake in the transmission, so that got a fluid change. Also greased driveshafts and u-joints. Discovered that my drag link had loosened up (thank God for cotter pins!) so I tightened it up as well. My sister got me some crappy "hole filler" LED lights for my front bumper, so I pulled my winch to get those wired along with the Rigid spot my dad found in the road and gave me (he was going to mount it on his lawn tractor and wanted to know whether I thought it was worth doing or any good; I about choked when I saw it was a Rigid). I didn't get the wiring finished, but my wife ended up slipping on the ice (stupid warming spell) and hurt her back. So now she's laid-up, and I need to stay home to take care of everyone instead of going wheeling. :(

Life happens. Enjoy the kids while you can. They will be grown and gone before you know it. Give your wife a gentle back rub every 90 minutes and she'll be back on her feet in no time. Happy new year.

Took the trash down to the garage and found a few minutes while down there to bolt the Rigid up to the brackets I made last night. Here's the finished set of lights.

Some friends came over to drink beer and keep me company while I finished the wiring, then I took it for a spin around the block. The Rigid spot easily outshines the OEM brights, and even the cheap fogs put out more light than dims. One of my friends took this pic just because of how ridiculous the CJ looks on the baby tires.

I wouldn't say ridiculous, intriguing perhaps, urbane? Nah you're right, ridiculous.

My "new" dream Scrambler

You do what it takes. It's the only way the M715 fits in the garage, on a set of 235s and with the stack taken off ...

I would totally rock those wheels and tires on my Scrambler... just to do donuts and burnouts! :D

Haha! My dad used to run muscle cars with his buddies back in the 70s and he said they used to get the crappy donut spare tires and mount them backwards on their cars so they stuck out all goofy and then drive them around town and do burnouts and leave really long skinny rubber skids all over town!

I had to get up at 6:00 am to swap the Boggers on in order to still make the meet-up time/location, but my club had a great run last weekend! One pic, and I'll put the rest in the snow thread if Photobucket ever starts cooperating and allows me to upload the rest:

No pics at the moment, but there were many taken. I had a bad day yesterday. Got up early to meet up with a JK group and take my wife and baby to the Knik Glacier (my wife's been out there a couple times, but still hasn't made it all the way to the glacier). As we were getting to the meet-up location (not even the trail head), we heard an odd almost grinding-type noise. I'd just discovered my front slipjoint was shot, and the hubs were locked, so I told her it was probably something related and don't worry about it.

1/2-way to the glacier, I lost my brake pedal. Fluid was fine, couldn't find any leaks, and the pedal would intermittently come back. So we pressed on. After a water crossing, a steep sheet of ice stopped my Boggers from doing anything other than sliding uncontrollably. We'd both been in that same area under similar conditions and it wasn't fun, so we both decided it would be smart to turn around. A group of Toyotas came up behind us, and with a couple of them on Boggers having as tough a time as me, they also decided to turn. So we planned to tag along with them for the exit. Not five minutes later, I found that two of my shackle-hanger bolts were gone--I assume they sheared since I put them in with red LockTite. Ugh. Limped it to the flats where the Toyotas wanted to have lunch, and I took a closer look at my shackle hangers: the bolts hadn't sheared, just backed out! So borrowed two bolts and thought we were fine. So after lunch we pressed on to the trail head.

A little less than 1/2-way again, I started feeling a weird drivetrain popping. So we stopped and pulled it up on some grass for evaluation: my hub had FRIED. The loss of brakes was because my left front inner brake pad simply left the vehicle, the bearings were wasted, one of the locking hub nuts was stripped, and both inner washers were damaged; the hub/wheel were barely attached to the Jeep, and the rim had been riding on the caliper. I had all the tools I needed to R&R a hub, so I pulled it apart only to find that the bearings were obliterated, the hub itself had damage, and WARN Premium hub had disintegrated and had holes through the base mechanism, and the spindle was destroyed.

I had a limited cell and text signal, so I was able to find friends to hit a parts store for bearings, Craigslist for a spindle, and get everything delivered. So I sent my wife and baby out with the Toyotas while I cleaned up what I had. The spindle got delivered, with new bearings, and I was able to limp out and drive home.

I may need a break from working on the CJ for a bit. In addition to needing new hub parts, I also really need to finish building my center console, interior storage boxes, and rear bumper. But I'm feeling a bit burned out at the moment.

OK, one pic:

Now that really sucks. Glad you had some buds and were able to get home safe. Hope all the repairs go well.

Still haven't worked on the hub, but I did take it in a parade and got it on the chassis dyno for some professional tuning. Specs are at the wheels. The tuner told me he usually estimates a 25% loss through the drivetrain, so my estimated flywheel HP is approximately 350, and torque is approximately 450. He got everything to within 10% of perfect across the board; he said he could probably get it down to 2%, but it would take another couple days of dyno time, which I can't afford.

Dyno videos. First one is still the set-up, while the second is an actual pull:
