My son has been wanting a Willys pickup, but he found a deal on a wagon and dragged it home. He doesn’t have a title yet, doesn’t even know what year it is. We’re going to see what it takes to get it running and stopping and go from there. Might need a head gasket and a lot of other things.IMG_6522.jpegIMG_6523.jpegIMG_6524.jpeg

He’s big into hunting. It’s a couple of turkey tail feathers he plans to mount. He’s mostly shed hunting this time of year.

Turley parts. I didn't even notice that🤣 Lots of them atvmy place, mybwife makes things with them.
 
We got it off of the trailer this evening and started tinkering with it. Oil and antifreeze look good. Plugs look oily. 12 volts in and out of the coil. Distributor cap, points, condenser look new. There’s no gas in it, but the electric fuel pump, added obviously, with a regulator does run. There’s no spark currently; I tried laying 2 different plugs on the head and cranking it in the dark…no spark. We’re going to start with fresh plugs and plug wires. Any thoughts out there on what else to check?IMG_2473.jpeg
 
12v into the distributor and no volts out. That would be my focus. I don’t trust parts that look new. I assume the distributor is spinning as well?

1. Looks like the Wagon is somewhere between a 1961 (when Willys added the single pane rear window) and March 1962 (the last of the 226 Hurricane with the three "organ pull" heater/fan controls.
2. To narrow down the year, the VIN plate should be on the driver's side step. Also the VIN is stamped on the top of the frame near the front passenger-side wheel, just rearward of the front axle.

Pretty sure it’s a 1961.

Very nice find. We've fantasized about getting one of those. I'd put a 4.0L/aw4 in it and drive the wheels off of it. Always thought that would be a perfect setup for a sweet DD.

It may end up getting a swap, but first we’re trying to see if the original motor is viable. We haven’t managed to get it to fire yet, but it does turn over.

At the risk of violating any forum norms, FYI www.OldWillysForum.com is a great spot for help and insight on 1946-1964 Willys. Folks there have forgotten more about the 226 Super Hurricane six than I'll ever learn.

I think there is someone in your neighborhood selling a sweet AMC 360.
 
Progress! My son learned how to install and set points. Plus a new condenser. He got it to fire on carb cleaner. Next is try to get it running off of a gas can. We don’t trust the gas tank yet until we get a look inside.
 
Even better this evening, it runs. He got gas to the carb, but nothing going through the carb. Pulled the top off, cleaned out the float bowl and freed up the stuck needle seat. It starts and runs off of a gas can. He’s had a great learning process on this thing. Next on to pulling the gas tank for cleaning and inspection and rebuilding the brake system.
