Well, after several months of back and forth with the seller, seller listing it on ebay, being sold, then high bidder backing out of deal three weeks later, then some re-negotiating with the seller and finally making a deal, then nearly another month dealing with shipping issues, I finally have my 4-door, Levi edition, 1978 Jeep Cherokee! I've got all my paperwork done, it passed Missouri safety inspection with flying colors, and now I just need to hit the DMV on Monday to get MO title and plates!

This Jeep is probably the most mechanically sound AMC-era Jeep I've ever purchased! Starts on first crank, idles and runs perfectly, no hesitation whatsoever, and will do 70 MPH down the highway! It is a one-owner, all original Cherokee with 360 and Quadratrac with 114,XXX miles that spent it's entire life in southern Oregon. It is a late 1978 production with Levi's interior (last year of "Levi's", 1979 and up were "denim") and a special order (99) paint code of Wedgewood Blue which was a 1979 color only. After much research it seems it wasn't uncommon for dealers to be able to special order next years paint colors on the end of the current model years production run. No rust but plenty of patina. Lots of little things to do but overall I'm very happy with the purchase and one more thing to keep my time spread thin!

That is a thing of beauty! Congratulations!

Very nice congratulations

That is beautiful... great find!

I have a question, though. I always thought Cherokees were two-door, and Wagoneers were four-door, yet you clearly have a four door Cherokee... what's the difference? Is "Cherokee" a trim package?

Congrats. Well worth the wait and process I am sure.

Yes, Cherokee was available in NT 2-door and 4-door and WT 2-door. The Cherokee was positioned under the Wagoneer which was the top end model. Four door Cherokees are difficult to find in nice original condition but aren't in as high demand as the 2-door WT so prices aren't as high. However I wanted a 4-door for a family vehicle.

There is no measure for how much I love this post. Best stock Jeep rims ever.

4-door Cherokees unite!

I keep looking at those pictures and drool, drool, drool. That is beyond amazing. You are a lucky man, Sir!

Pure jealousy here! You are amassing quite a nice collection of Jeeps.

Very pretty! Is this going to be a daily driver?

Thanks for all the compliments! I'm still loving this thing! I did have a little scare and thought the transmission went out on me but turned out it was just the transfer case in neutral! I felt stupid and happy at the same time! Had time to give it a nice hand wash today:
