Problems with Bestop Install

Not really. Still going through a bunch of crap with Bestop via email and their "engineers" to find out what went wrong and what it happening. I can't believe they don't have a service bulletin or anything by now. I've sent more photos than I can count with the windshield channel mounts, "door flap" seats, and don't get me started on the rear curtain hanger. Still not able to close, still too wide for the brackets, and still can't move the latches when the curtain hanger is in place.
I am suppose to have an update by Friday. **Not holding my breath**

Maybe they have been in denial all this time and just figured out they have a real problem.

Have you measured your tailgate opening across the bottom and top? All of the door closing/tailgate latches being too tight could just be that your gaskets are stiff but the rear window bar not going into the holders seems crazy to me. I'm wondering if your tub is somehow bowed in across the width?

That said, I put NOTHING past the incompetence of Bestop nowadays...

I haven’t been on here in a long time but I’m having the exact same problem with my top that I purchased last year. Mine also sagged like crazy. Bestop replaced it under warranty but it took about 3 months for the new top to arrive. Haven’t got it on yet, but I’m going to have to work on the upper door alignment

I read through quick and didn't see this answer... is this a OEM tub or aftermarket?
If aftermarket... that could be a big deal.

My tub is OEM also. All measurements are within 1/16th to 1/32 at all points from factory. Windshield frame to tailgate, windshield frame to top rear of door opening, bulkhead to tailgate, bed width, tailgate opening, tailgate latches and so on.

I had a friend come over who has the same top from 4 years ago and everything fit just like it should. So it's clearly a manufacturing problem and I've seen people trying to sell the top on CL, FBMP, and offer up for a discounted price. In all of the photos they are trying to hid the fact that the tailgate doesn't close or latch.

Bestop stopped responding after they sent a replacement rear curtain hanger that was exactly the same measurements as the one that came with the top and I aske for the corner pieces to be replaced sending them photos and measurements of the parts my friend brought over. So I contacted Quadratec and requested a refund. For some reason the top took over 2 weeks to get there via FedEx and they just processed my refund yesterday.

Buyer beware of this model top since the back order started. I've owned countless tops, seats, seat covers and so on from Bestop and never had an issue until this top. I even had the Tiger Top from them on my 83 CJ8.

I've been working on this for the past few weeks and bought some foam tube and was able to close the small gap in my doors. 13mm was super tight on the bar, had to lube it up a little to get it on there but it worked nicely.

Now, I just have to figure out how to stop the top from sagging over the driver and passenger seats...

I use a trimmed down broom stick I run from windshield to roll bar. Cut flat in both ends and sanded down so the top is safe. We get inches of rain an hour around here and have been using the “ stick “ for decades so my top and bikini top don’t turn into lakes.

Love it - any chance you have a picture?

If I did that my doors would never close

The short cut is for the windshield. The longer cut is to sit on the roll bar. Couple of the pictures are not very good because of poor light in the garage. Silver tape is where someone a long time ago stepped on it and I repaired it B0CD877C-0F79-4DE4-ABE4-551E1E959BCA.jpeg9EA8DF6F-D610-4D07-88CD-216D1D932BB1.jpeg0EB3E3CE-2022-48D1-B394-6C9FD5FA9813.jpegB1CBF569-33E0-43B5-82AA-AAA8309576F4.jpeg41DCC465-1283-4D70-B724-76ACA17D73AC.jpeg

It sounds like you've reached a point where if you want it to fit right, it's up to you. As long as the canvas is OK, modify or change the metal parts to make it fit. Sucks that they took something that worked well, and changed it to not. Too much change in this world for change sake, even if it is wrong. Compare one that fits well and just use your good judgement on how to modify it. Ideally, put your top on someones old frame to see if it is just the frame that is off, or the new canvas as well. Best Tops R & D must not be doing R & D.

This makes me glad I have a NOS Kayline FastTrack full top with doors in a bedroom in my house. Hopefully they fix the issue as I have heard of others having same problem.

I am glad I found this thread, I was considering buying a Supertop but I'm not sure now. Has anyone else installed one recently? If so, how did it go?
