RispoNY's Scrambler Build Thread - The 'Kit' Scrambler w/ Postal Top (PIC HEAVY)

Looking good man. Thats too bad with the pait shop troubles but it does look awesome. Ran into the se issues with fitment of an arb in my 14 bolt. Shop is in the process of grinding for fitment. Keep at it that thing looks great.

Well, I'm glad you're back on the horse, just remember that these ground up projects take a lot of heart and soul...mine still isn't on the road either.

As far as the surface rust on the underside, get spray on rust remover, prep it yourself and have it linex'd, 4 guys can flip it on moving blankets...now it might cost some more $$$ but you're project is already out of hand, might has well go the extra mile. I've been there.

Great choice on the Aero tank....I bought one too.

Now, aren't you doing a postal top? How come your doors are standard ones? Are you converting the top like Jeff did on his or am I seeing the pics backwards?

Can't wait to see the finished product

Absolutely incredible stuff. As much as I have been facinated with this build, I am also as facinated with the workspace. Its so clean and bright like an operating room and the couches with parts on them and random ponies makes it look like a mix between a circus merry-go round and an old furniture showroom. Welcome back, cant wait to see more

Unrelated to the CJ8 build, but is that an old Honda XL125 sitting behind it? I rebuilt one of those when I was a kid.

That's a pretty engine! Good work....keep rolling along.

Good to see you back on the horse. Your doing a good job and things will come up again. It's all part of the process. Just keep at it and soon enough you'll be enjoying the ride.

Glad to see you back! Sorry you had to go through all that trouble but on the bright side you have a beautiful Scrambler coming together!

Great to be back! Thank you for all the kind words and confidence you all have provided me with. Hopefully this time around the build will go much smoother.

So I'm actually in the process of prepping the postal top and doors now. My plan is to have 3 sets of doors to run three different top options, half doors topless, full doors and soft top, and postal top and doors. I just have to find another painter and then you'll see the other parts getting ready!

Thanks! I really lucked out on the space. Our close family friends built this 2-3k sq.ft barn/hanger structure on their property nearby about 15 years ago for their daughter to practice gymnastics in. She has since outgrown it and they now let me use it as I please whenever I want. It's got stadium lighting and heat so it's absolutely perfect.

I believe it is! My brother got it at a yard sale recently and I haven't gotten a chance to check it out cause of all this weather lately.

This is where I stand now. I opted for POR-15 for the underside of the chassis. I masked off all of the drain plugs and holes on the underside of the tub and got to prepping. I bought myself a gallon of the degreaser, the metal prep, and the actual rust encapsulator. I've already sprayed the degreaser and rinsed it off all then sprayed the metal prep and rinsed that off too. Extremely difficult when there is no hose nearby. I'm waiting for it to be "bone dry" as they say in the instructions and then I'll hit it with the black stuff, probably tomorrow. Here is how I propped up the tub with a 4x4 fence post, it really provides me with more than enough space to work underneath so if any of you ever get in my predicament, fear not! It's doable.

Put something on top of the fuel tank that will reach up to the bottom of the tub. If that 4x4 slides out or move side to side the tub will drop. Hate to see you under it if that happens plus what it could do to a nice tub. On my dump trucks I use a 4x4 like that as a safety support and still take another 4x4 and lay across the frame rails in front of the dump body hinges. I've seen the 4x4s slide out at the floor.

You can't really see in the picture, but I also have an engine hoist chained to the underside of the frame rail just in case it were to slip and drop. That would really just end the build if something happened to the tub this late in the game!

That's good to hear. Hate to see something happen to you or a nice project.

It would probably end more then just the build.

FWIW, the color you chose to go with is wicked awesome!
