Spent some time cutting and trimming to get the floors to match up closer... there was rust higher up in the metal that these floors don't cover in the middle, and I will address this when I get all the bracing in place and flip it over.
But wanted to get the floors fitting nicely... getting closer to burning these in.

This time of the year is tough to get out and get stuff done with the holidays, family, and the snow... kids were off yesterday which just added to no time... but we had fun playing in the snow... went out to lunch as well, that was nice.
I know it doens't look like it, but I made a lot of progress... might look like baby steps, but this is locked into position now with the screws... and pretty much level... just a few more tweaks and then I can paint it with weld thru primer and then burn it in... hopefully tomorrow, but we will see how the Christmas party goes... normally the next morning is not a time for welding

Getting all the parts prepped with weld thru primer and getting the other side mount cut off... not it comes down to burning them up... need to get to it, but running out of time with the holidays.

Got all the plug welds in and a few tacks and cleaned it up a bit... still needs a lot of welding and some of the metal near the tunnel was thinner than I had hoped... but it is solid enough for now... some other parts when flipped over need to be addressed, but all in all, a ton of replacement and it is solid now... just need to pretty it up.
Need to do the other side as well now... not as extensive, but still need to repair rockers and the rear area... it is a ton of work, but once done, will be solid and good for years.
So far it is mostly level, it is square, and it is from side to side all within 1/16"... I think that is pretty good (might even be better than what I started with )

Chipping away... the other side isn't as bad and more can be saved, but getting these spot welds are slow going.

Moved over to the other side for a break... -10F out the other night when I was working... had to work, open garage, vent out the bad air, get clean air... turn heater back on... repeat.
Wife then had surgery, so we will be hunkering down for the next few days while the freezing cold snap continues.

Happy New Years to you. Hope the little woman is doing better. I think I should come up and watch you work. I can sip on some fine Bourbon and you can continue to weld. Plus I need some parts. Don't you think this deep freeze came a little early this year ?? I tried working on the cj5 last week and totally gave up, when my oldest and his buddy came up with beer. Then they proceeded to take up all the room in front of the torpedo heater. Done !

Some observations from last night...
1) My bottle of windex was frozen solid... it has ammonia in it, which I was led to believe in chemistry class didn't freeze, but alas... I either have cheap windex, or it is too cold.
2) It isn't the coldest it has ever been up here, but it is the longest prolonged time... thus a lot of things won't work... I can't charge my drill batteries outside, have to bring them into the house, let them warm up, then charge them, then outside.
3) Cold Galvanizing weld thru primer... can't be used in this weather if left outside... bring inside and warm up gradually, then bring out when needed.
4) When opening a beer, you had about 2 mins to finish it, or it froze into slushy chunks
5) With the wife laid up, that stove is being plugged full of wood and we are burning through it at an alarming rate... it is warmer in the house than normal though.
6) cutting/grinding/welding in the cold is next to impossible with glasses on... since my eyesight has decided to go in another direction, I wear glasses under the grinding or welding mask... and it fogs up quick.
I do have a heater out there, but when it is -11, it just doesn't keep up... just takes the chill off... the good news is we have a small break tonight and tomorrow for a small warming trend, then back to deep freeze and then next week back to more normal temps.
You are always more than welcome to come up, but I would wait till it is a bit warmer as my conditions aren't that much better ')

I went to a prep school northwest of Concord for 3 years...long ago. I still remember those winters and glad I don’t have to deal with them.

Yeh, I can't remember a winter turning out this cold this soon. Usually we are getting some lows at night around 0 to 15 degrees. But I cannot remember a December going into January with minus zero, every freaking night. negative 17 has been the low so far this year at the farm. I'm in a small valley, so I expect to be colder than areas around me, but not this damn cold this quick. Pellet stove is not getting a break. Global warming, not around here. More like , dingle berry freezing cold.

I was outside doing small stuff, heater on... still was only 45 or so in the shop... beer still turned to slush... hands hurt this morning.
I drilled a lot of holes and trimmed to fit better.
PS> I was out in Western Mass for those blizzards in 1996/2001 and it was very cold then... but no where as prolonged as this.
