SJScrambler - Getting Started

Got a lot cut and trial fitted last night... was a lot of head scratching and trial fitting... needs more trimming and one side a little pulled in, but you get the idea of what it will look like... middle piece will be a bit of an angle as the CJ7 rollbar is peaked and the RH4x4 one was not.

If I recall you're a 6 foot + man, How's the "fit" for you with the cage and all? Looks great as always!

Any estimated time frame on the first drive ? Just curious what you are thinking.

WOW------>He just called you out on it!

She is the holder of the keys at the moment, whether or not she wants to keep it is up to her... her ability to comprehend hours and labor and parts isn't so great at the moment because I asked her how much she thought it was worth and she said "maybe $200" and I gave her a quizzical look and she said, oh yeah, probably "500 thousand million". So if she does decide to part ways with it, I hate to be the person negotiating with her because there is quite a swing.

Fitment is pretty good... I am 6'1" ~250 (with my winter coat on) and all around the cage doesn't hit me and the seat fits and the door is fine, etc.
The cage for inside the scrambler from RH4x4 is not the same as my CJ7 one just due to the confines of the cab itself... it is a nice cage and will help getting in/out with the handle and have the seat belt mounting hole in approximately the right place, but as it being an actual cage to save you... my torso puts my huge melon right up near the top of the cage, so I am not counting on it.

I consider it to be slightly better than what was there with the top/doors as there was never a cage in a CJ10a, so this is one step better.

Did a lot of fitting/cutting with the old and new pieces... I ended up cutting some parts off the rear hoop to help out with the bars on top.

Then right when you get all ready to do some measuring and you t hink you have all the tools in your posession for the 18th time getting up in the truck... you look over and see your tape meaure on your tool box... sigh...

Doors fit, but they don't close... LOL... you can't use the normal dash bolts with the RH4x4 plate... need flush mount screw heads.

Everything looks great. I really like the matching in-cab bar. Love watching this come together!

Been laid up a few days... hurt my foot/leg with the snow/ice... so last night some new parts arrived... some parts and a new tool.
Got busy not climbing in/out of the cab.

The 3" clamps will be nice to mount up the KC-hi lites and on the sides, perhaps a fire extinguisher and maybe something else on the other side.

The new tool will allow me to recess the transmission hump to allow the plate to sit down in it... was fooling around a bit with it.

Then I was playing around with the clamps on top for the sides... some trimming, some bending, some measuring, all getting close.

I just couldn't climb up in the truck to do anything, so it was all ground work.

The flange/punch tool! Those work awesome. Bit of a learning curve to get the flanges smooth, but it looks like you got it. I used mine a lot when I was doing my hot rod business.

Driver side done, Passenger side neds a little more tweating upwards and inwards.

For all you old timers, once I get it done, I might have to implement the patented Scherb gorilla test... although I can't stand on it, I can lounge on it... 250 lb. laying down gorilla test?

It actually looks pretty decent with the top off, I didn't know how I would like it... if I can dig up a CJ7 bikini top tonight, I might install it and see how it looks if I go over the first bar and then angle it down towards the wheel wells in front of the double tube bars.

I think the proportions look great with the top off. I think it would have looked weird if there was no roll bar in the cab, but that's my opinion.
