SOA National for 2007...

The distance to this 07 event is almost the same as the Moab trip. That's one advantage of living in the center of the country i guess. Fees are becoming a part of our hobby. I would like to come but things are pretty tight right now, we shall see.

I'll echo Big W's comments..

Yes!

Mapquest says it's about 207 miles, or 3 hrs and 45 minutes from here, so I'm determined to be there. If I have to beg, borrrow, and steal, then so be it! :D
It'll probably just take begging mostly :o

If you decide to go, let me know. Maybe I can follow you. This invitation goes out to anybody else in the area too.

Hey, 2K1TJ, kinda the same for me....

just have to switch the numbers around & add a zero....2700 miles, Vancouver to Windrock, one way...

highly unlikely...:(

Jeep funds and Yard sales

We all had a great idea when Moab came about for a rolling flea market, some of us even hauled things there to sell. How about an online Yard Sale? Proceeds would go into a fund to off set the cost of fees for next years run, the more we raise, the more the Event commitee can make registration easier on those of us that are finanically challenged.

How about that?

As for attending next years event, if I can get away for the drive that far and find a truck to tow my Jeep there, I am going.

I would be glad to serve on the event commitee if I am welcome. Running my own business in a resort town, we have to be creative to find ways to promote our small town. So I have some experience.

Not a bummer....THINK OF THE ADVENTURE!!!!:D

Sad to say

Spent a lot of time working on the National event this past year organizing the Moab event. Was hoping for something a little closer than 2100 miles. Sorry to say won't be makin this trip. Probably will substitute with a trip on the Rubicon instead. Y'all have a great time.

Talk about long drives...

Hat's off to Crossbones, who drove the farthest in 2006 to make it to Moab...if I remember correctly, it was 2000+ miles 1 way.

It'll take a challenge by the SoCal group to break his mark, I'm sure. Anyone in SoCal up to it?

1200 miles in a roofless Scrambler to Moab this year WAS quite "the adventure" for us, as my better half coined the phrase. (Nice of you to remember John!).

2700 miles (1-friggin-way) in a Scrambler is a little more than an adventure....I'd call it a trek.

For instance, comparatively speaking:
- Big Walt's 'continental tour' down from Alaska. [hmmmm..... Big Walt's tour from Anchorage to Durham = 4451 miles; round trip to Windrock = 5434 miles - holy crap, a thousand miles more than B/Walt!!??!!??. Impossible. Think I'd need a sponsor like B.W. had...]
- The 2005 Paris to Dakar Rally was only 5565 miles....but those 'wooses' have support crews, trucks, & only travel 300 miles per day per stage...;)

It'll be a while before someone breaks the marks set by B/Walt & Crossbones, IMHO. I can only dream about such a trip...but an adventure it would be....

With the route we took it was 5344.5 miles :D Had to detour through Ohio and MD for the two mandatory stops along the way

Pick a southern route out and a northern route back. Make it a Scrambler tour of the US! I will go in for a tank of gas if you try it! ;)

On the highway, with a decent pair of seats, a CJ can be totally comfortable. I'm 6'6" and never once hurt or was uncomfortable (except for heat in the last two legs of the trip) putting in as much as 16 hours a day with the new Trailmax Pro seats...

Just trying to help, I want to see you drive it!

Crossbones was the envy of all the east coasters last year... *Eric heads to Autotrader.com to look for tow rigs*

Who actually drove in their Scrambler the farthest to Moab? Was that a separate award?

If it wasn't, it sure should be!
Oh, it is an award and Pat/Copper Cohiba won it by driving his stock Scrambler 1200 miles from BC (I think).

Can't beat that offer!

If not for circumstances beyond my control, I would have driven my stock Scrambler to Moab and had a longer trip than Crossbones, since I live 1.5 hours southeast of him. But, such is life. :(

Can't wait to go Windrock. I'm starting my plans now. I'm sure the wife will like this spot, since she loves Asheville NC (where we got married).

To make it fair to the SoCal guys (and others on the west side), we should consider the Rubicon for 2008.

I gotta say, it's nice not to have to worry about the long drive. :)

COPPER, I will donate a tank of gas to your venture as well. That's three tanks so far! Who needs a sponsor? :D
"You can do it!"

There was a really nice couple that drove all the way down from Vancouver, IIRC. I think they won it. They even donated a prize for the raffle. They looked a little more refined than most of us nose pickers. Had all their teeth and everthin.
