Hi Gang,

For those of you not following my thread in the CJ-8 SC Ramblings section... I just purchased a very tired CJ-8 that has been sitting around for quite some time. The pictures can be found here:

http://www.joewest.org/JoeWest.org/Jeep_Scrambler_Project.html

My current plan is to get the Jeep running and then decide how to attack the restoration.

There are a few things that I'd like to do right away:

1. Replace the missing rear window with a sliding glass one.
2. Replace the broken passenger window.
3. Dump the mismatching rims and put stock rims on for now.
4. Replace the ghetto seats with stock seats and console.
5. Find a replacement battery voltmeter (mine is missing completely)
6. Find a stock front bumper, rear bumper, and tailgate.

I suspect that most of these parts (with the obvious exception of the tailgate) are run of the mill CJ parts. What I'm looking for is a recommendation for an online source of restoration parts that may carry what I'm looking for. Hopefully I can find most of the used body parts here in Arizona.

The next month or so I'll have this up on jackstands and will be taking it apart enough to verify safety items like brakes, replacing fluids, rebuilding the carburetor, etc. For me... this is the fun part; making it run again.

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Joe, send a note to Matt Donaghy (he owns this site). He sells sliding rear windows that fit the Scrambler 1/2 tops.

The tailgate is the same as other CJ models of similar vintage. Newer replacements will not have the original "JEEP" stamp on them, so NOS or a used one may be your best bet. I have a new, never used tailgate, in primer, if you want, without the "JEEP" stamp on it, but I'll be gone for a couple of weeks before I could send it; plus, this has none of the small hardware needed for the tailgaite either.

It sounds like you need to see Cole at 4Wheelers, Joe at Absolute Offroad, or me. We can order all of those parts from Crown which is a Jeep replacement part wholesale company.

Replacement Parts

You can get new aftermarket tail gates now with "JEEP" logo stamped in it but they cost more. Go to www.jeepdoc.com They are a good source for the parts you are looking for.

Okay... so who are you? :D

I work at Chuck's Speed Center but I just don't let that out on the local boards. I try to help as much as I can to help but there are too many "experts" on VJC. Like I said earlier, I can order the parts as well as AO or 4Wheelers.

Yea, my brothers name is Derrick. It was hell for me growing up.

I have had very good luck with Krage motorsports jeepdoc.com, tell him Eric from Michigan gave him good recommendation!!

I've got an OE Scrambler front bumper- cheap, but shipping might be too high.

x2, only my name's not Eric, Errick, or Airrick. ;) I bought an aftermarket Jeep tailgate (with "Jeep" stamping) for my old Scrambler, and it looked nice; they're made by Omix-Ada.

Krage is a good place to deal with.

Another recommendation for Krage. Their price has come up a little in recent years, but still nice to deal with (and lots of parts). You may want to contact 4WD.com and Quadratec for a free catalog (wish list). Aside from that, post your needs here and lots of us will try to help. Unfortunately, I just got rid of mostly all of my stash (too much stuff in the garage). Good luck.

I have a set of hi back CJ seats in burgundy vinyl for sale. They're pretty nice. Also have a front stock bumper in great shape w/end curves, and a stock rear bumper in usable but ruff shape.

Shipping could be a major problem though.
