Trail Scrambler Build/Rebuild-Chiefwaho

WOW! Mad props for doing it right and doing it well!!

Hope to see it out in Clayton!

You know you have a good buddy when you leave for the day to go hand off the Charity Scrambler and upon your return your buddy has opened your shop and started wrenching on your jeep. He put the tires and wheels back on the axles mounted the front axle to the frame, worked on the tub, cut off shock towers, crossmembers and misc items off old frame that we still need to transfer to new frame.

Had a unexpected repair on the rear axle.
The driver side axle tube had spun about 1/4"
Doesn't seem like much until you put a level on it and see how much the spring perch is off. Theses are Tera 60R axles, 1/2" tubes. Called Tera to see what the recomend to fix. The guy said heat the housing and try to rotate it back. He also said they use a 30 ton press to put them in. I had my doubts but tried anyway after dis-assembling the axle. After about 45 min to and hour of heating we had no luck rotating the tube back. So we went to the next step they suggested, cut the perches off the rotated side, heat the housing and weld the tube to the housing (we done both sides).

Can't say that I've ever seen the tie rod tie in done like that. I like it a lot better than what I have seen though

This is going to be a killer rig, keep up the great work.

Looking good Jason!
We gonna see this one in Clayton?

Look what the Big Brown Truck brought today!
Need to read the manual to figure out where all those shiny parts go.

Turbo 400 is now mated to the 5.3L.
Still need to bolt the flexplate to the converter.
I will do that when I swap oil pans.
I can go with a Camaro/Firebird oil pan and gain 3" from the truck pan.
Also got the motor mounts bolted to the block.
I can't stand that red loom, it has got to GO!

It's looking great, Jason. I may have missed it, but it looks like you replaced the spring hangers with some seriously beefy ones. Are they in the same location, or did you use them to move the wheelbase back a little? Just curious.

As usual, beautiful work!

Per some expert advise (scrangler & KSCJ-8)
The rear axle has been moved back 6" to make around 110" wheel base. That meens running a fuel cell in the bed.

Looking Good...

It's interesting that the 60's tube was spun AGAIN. I'm pretty sure i remember Lee spinning it in Hot Springs. I thought he put a different one on there after that.

Jason,
What are those long metal thingys on top of your axles??
I thought they were supposed to round and curly.....:p

Motor, Trans and Case mocked up in place.
Need to grab some extra hands and set the tub back on to make sure all fits.
The spare fire wall we have laying around sure came in handy for mock up.

Looking good man!

Jason,
Question:
That Scrambler that followed y'all home...the rear wheel has what appears to be a manual locking hub unit on it? That's just what it looks like in the picture. What is that?

Just wondering.

It is just a stock center cap! Not a lock out.

Is that a truck 5.3 engine? you will want to set the grille and hood in place too. That engine sits VERY tall compared to to a regular small block. I learned this after burning in the motor mounts on the wife's yj after the 5.3/700r4/atlas installation. I promptly had to pull EVERYTHING apart to cut the mounts out and lower them on the frame.

ya'll are still moving pretty fast in my book....looks good.
