Okay, I finally have a number and it is astounding. I put the trees in two catagories. Smaller than 15 inches at the trunk measured about 36" up and Larger than that. Now, keep in mind I had a 4.5 acre Yard. Yeah, yard it was all cut and improved. I will post a pic on here in a little while. I always gripped about not having any grass over some of it but that was becuase i had shade. Not I have no shade.

Small trees: 26
Large trees: 27

Total: 53 trees down and dead.

Insurance will pay to remove the 4 on my shop and to have the shop rebuilt. They will not cover any of the others. Best bid so far is $8500 worst is $18000. The guy bidding best has workers comp and liability. I am think I will have to sell the XJ to cover it. I removed the tree off the shop and have sumitted a bill to the insurance company hoping that will cover some of the cost.

Anyone close to Southeast Texas have a good tractor?

That is funny. :D

When we cam back into the area just after Rita had passed we brought over 300 pounds of ice, 200 gals. water, we had 300 gals of gas on reserve. Most imprtantly we brought 6 case of beer in. We kept two case for use and used the rest to bater with. It was amazing how far a cold beer would go. Also, If you want to know how much someone will pay for gas, it is $20/gal. I had a 5 gal can full and was offered $100 for it. I passed and gave it to him.

One thing to add to the evacuation box is a Travel trailer. It took 12.5 hours to get 56 miles. We had it good though. The wife was in the trailer with the AC , she is 6 mos pregnant now, and was cook brisket as we where heading down the road. :D

We had a few problems on the way and I was glad to have my 9mm and 12ga on me. At one point I told my wife to lay down beside the bed and pulled the mattress over her.

I know a guy who is in Ga who is doing stump removal. I don't know if he has started back towards Colorado or not yet, but I could call him and see if you like??? He went down with a couple of tree crews from Colorado.

trout... damn, I knew it was bad from the pictures but sheesh!!

Thankfully you're talking about removing trees and not rebuilding houses at least.

I wish I was closer and could come cut stuff up... love the chainsaw! I hope it works out for you somehow so you don't have to sell off any Jeeps

Could you have them remove only the very most needed trees and then work on the rest yourself? For that amount of money you could invest in some nice equipment to help you deal with it all and still save some cash.

I truly feel for you brother... good luck in getting it all figured out.

I can chop it all up but I need a front loader or something to push it all out to the street. If I can get it out there FEMA will pick it up.

I have thought about that but the huge ones are in the way. My work truck is behind all of them. I really need to get it out. Also have the Baby girl due in January and would like to get back to normal by then. Good thing is I am not working now so I can devote alot of time to it. I have tried to rent machinery but can only find it in Houston and they will not let me bring it here. I am looking to buy a Bobcat on a SBA loan and then sell but can not find one that is reasonably priced. If I can find a front Loader I could sell it after this.

If anyone in the area knows of a some machinery for sale let me know. i would have to stay under 10k

Come on fellas, I know we have a few of you that have tractors with front loaders. Let's help a brother out and get one down to him. If I had one Dan I would try and get it down to you. Sorry but I don't. Maybe someone else could.

Rental center...

Dan,
Why don't you see if you can rent one this weekend. I cleared my Saturday to come help you cut it all up if you want. We have a 4wd Kubota at our farm in Jasper, but Dad is up there right now using it for the same thing. If you can find one for rent in Houston, I'll go pick it up...

got Kubota?

Dan,
Just got off the phone with my Dad...He says we can borrow his Kubota, you'll have to go pick it up in Jasper though. He doesn't have a trailer....Give me a call....it's a L2600 4wd diesel with a front loader and box blade...

Stout, I wish I was close enough to help you saw and haul my friend!

Brit, this photo is TOOO FUNNY! You're RIGHT ON, at a time like this our friends in the south could use a laugh, I'm sure! :D

I would love to borrow it. Would my Flat car hauler carry it? I will give you a call tonight and maybve we can work out some details. :D

Dan

Those would be nice but here is what I am trying to get. If my SBA loan goes through I may be able to. I have made an offer on this one. TXsBill also offered to come this weekend and get a tractor. If this excavator works out I will in the Biz. Right now my hopes are not high on it. It is alot of money. Of course, I could sell the Scrambler.

tractor baahhh

Use the jeep! In low it is pretty capable as a tractor, it may not do it all but I have used to pull most trees out of my grandfathers farm. BTW I am trully sorry that I am far away or I would be there to help.

Hey hasn't seen my Jeep :D. I cry when I get it dirty. Just Kidding. The XJ has been used alot, but there is an oppurtunity to make some real cash quick out here doing an honest days work. Some many are gouging. I can under cut by Thousands. :D. I could pay for that machine in a week charging fair prices.

HOLY CRAP!!!! I called my bank and they will do a loan for me. It sure does pay to have your credit in good shape. I may go pick this up today. Bill call me when you get a chance. I will be on the Cell.

BEWARE...

Just a warning about insurance man... you need to be damn careful about how you go about this. I hope to heck that it works out for you, but you NEED to know that you're not getting in where one mistake with that loader ends up costing you a lot more than your Scrambler...

I know you'd be in a great place to help people out and you could do really well for yourself, but BE CAREFUL how you go about it. Today's litigious society means you need to CYA here!

*off soapbox* Good luck!
