Getting too old to swing the splitting maul so I finally got around to sticking the pieces together for my splitter. Only purchased parts have been the cylinder and control valve, all the rest is one mans trash is this mans treasure[emoji2]

I had to bevel the 1" plate with a torch to make the wedge

It's 6" x 8"

I think I'm going to put a piece of 1/2" square stock on the foot to concentrate the compressive force directly in line with the wedge. Think stress concentration point.

Have to mount the control valve and make the 3 point attachment so I can use it horizontal or vertical and paint

From my experience a first class fabricator always has a messy work area. You are definitely a 1st class fab man. Whats going to power the splitter.

I gave up 5 years ago... best "give up" I have ever done... the splitter has now split 20-25 cord of wood and all it needed was a couple of filters and some fluid changes... not bad at all vs. the sharpening of the ax and all the advil and deep tissue massage costs.

Dad is an expert hoarder who never uses his stuff (with his Scrambler being a perfect example).

A few years ago I had a big red oak dying in the front yard. Paid a local guy to take it down and leave it, along with another one about the same size in the back.

Back in the early 80's Dad bought a Husky 2100 with several bars, the largest of which is a 36". A few years later he bought a Husky 372XP. When this tree came down in 2012 both were still new in their boxes.

He breaks out an old Homelite with a 16" bar. Only when the trunk got so thick that going to either side the cuts still wouldn't meet did he get out the 372.

So I get these two trees cut up, and split all the wood with wedges and a 10lb sledge. Dad also happens to have a nice splitter that mounts on the back of our tractor. You guessed it. Never been used, bought from the local John Deere dealership in the mid 80's and it was "too much trouble to get it out, and you need the exercise"

Still burning that wood several nights a week in the fire pit. Probably only 1/2 way through it.

Here it is plumbed and painted. Went thru some stringy oak crotches easily. It's for my Kubota L2600DT. I've also built a cab for it and have to put the glass in it. These little things are the handiest to have if you've got a chunk of land and need a power wheelbarrow. I'm very pleased with the way it came out. And I did clean up the shop when I was done just so you guys don't think I'm a junker.

I think it would be like 4am for 1pm games and 7pm for 4pm games, but depending on where he is, +/- a couple hours.

So I never get to play in this thread. So today I just cleaned my shop (in my basement). So since it was as clean as it has been in years, I took some pics. Three workbenches. No work going on yet. The plates for the body mounting kit will be on the drill press soon though.
