Randyzzz Scrambler Restification Thread!

Yeah, vents at the top would have been ideal, there's just no room on the driver's side. A/C will probably only get used when my wife is along for the ride. I'm a windows-down kind of guy.

Randy: Your dash came out looking good. Good to see you are making progress. I'm stalled behind weeks of work in the shop.

Did you do a complete Vintage Air A/C system? It's the last big thing I have to buy, and I want to know how it went together.

So are you drivning it yet?

Randy

I wish I was driving it, Randy. By Summer, I promise.

The A/C system is from Hot Rod Air- got it from Summit. Thought it was a great deal, although it looks like they went out of business after I made my purchase. Hopefully it all works well. I'm overall happy with the unit, Looks well made. I could have fit a bigger one, you know that hindsight thing.

Spent a couple of hours transferring from the foam to a drawing, getting it perfectly even, and then doing the layout on the aluminum sheet. Going to start cutting tomorrow.

Spent a lot more time this long weekend getting ready for Christmas than working on the Scrambler. Lights, tree run (In the snow :woot:) and such stuff.

I did manage to get all 3 panels cut and laid out. Got all the holes cut with the exception of warning lights and A/C switches. Even got the finishing touches done on the center panel. I originally was going to paint it body color, but I'm liking how the aluminum looks against the cage. What do you think?

I vote to bust out a wire wheel and lightly hit them and call it good

I like that answer. Actually, that panel has been smoothed with a DA and then hand brushed with a Scotchbrite pad. It looks really great in person...the flash gives it an uneven look.

2 more to go!

I agree with bigwalton, the unfinished aluminum looks great with the frame. Keep up the great work Randy, you are the inspiration that keeps me working on my pile of parts.

Thanks!

Still trying to decide on the right hand panel...it looks awfully bare.

Looking good. I bought and used the complete Vintage air system and which turned out to be everything I could ask for. My only problem is I should have Insulated everything I could have, These 100degree days in Louisiana are tough on AC, the radiant heat comingh off the cowl, firewall, doors and top can overwelm the AC output. I'll try posting a picture of my layout.
I wish i had you patience man. Randy you are truly an inspiration to anyone with a pile of rusty parts

That looks great! I hopefully will have enough insulation...my biggest concern is that I should have bought the biggest unit instead of the mid sized one.

I agree The bigger units would still have fit very nicely. I hope all the other guys here take note from us.
BIGGER is Better and my cj8 is a hard top half cab.

The fenders are here!

Been waiting for this day for...well, a couple of days! Not only does Metalcloak have great customer service, but they ship fast too! Packaging was awesome, they must own stock in a bubble-wrap company.

Got them unwrapped, and inspected. Super workmanship, fit, and finish. All hardware complete, and a bunch of free stickers to boot! Time to test fit.

The inner fenders are really well made too, but I couldn't try them due to interference with my shock hoops. I'm planning on modifying the hoops so I laid the inner fenders aside for now.

They fit like a glove! Bolted right up, evenly, and with no gaps or bending. I am grinning ear to ear. I'll let the pictures do the talking from here out...although I have to admit, the pictures don't do them justice.

A few more. I love these things! Can't wait until the rear corners are available.

Oh...pay no attention to the sexy front winch mount. That's all going to change...;)

I think there's room for 37's with just a RE4.5" lift ! The 35"s on there now have plenty of room!

That's the widest one they make. Just covers the top of the tire at it's widest point.

Back on the dash last night. Made some good progress on the drivers side panel. Missing a warning light (Batt), and still have to install the HVAC controls and lower filler, but here are some pics. I have got to either get better lighting in my garage, or hopefully get a good sunny day (right...) so these pics look better.

If anyone wants, all my pics and more are in my Webshots album, which can be found here:

The Scrambler Pics are mostly in the "Scrambler" album, and there's plenty of car show pics, pics of my other rides past and present, and other stuff. Enjoy!

looks awesome!!!
where are those "idiot" lights from??? :)

So do you just park in safer parts of town than me? Or is there and antitheft theory built into the huge nav/tv screen?
