SJScrambler - Getting Started

Like all things, I bought it in the snow/rain... #1 mistake ;)

Actually there are good parts on it, but the bed is destroyed and the frame was "patched"... I will know more when I get it apart.
Hopefully it is still usable for someone.
It has a T176 in it, the top, good bulkhead, uncut dash, nice dashpad... so a lot of good, but the body like most up here is trashed.

BW, this is the stripped nut

This was the last pic I took last night... I got the wheels back on it and all buttoned up, but didn't snap a picture as it was Nacho time and I had to run in and get cleaned up.
The kids are really into Nachos lately, so I am not gonna complain.
They actually ate a ton... at a restaurant... who da thunk it?

What's your plan for the "new" scrambler?

I need the drive train, windshield frame and a few other parts, the rest is gonna be for sale.
I will trade the hard top for one I have already as this one is slightly nicer.

Here are the pics of the bed/bumper area... it is not that great, but the spare was a nice find in the bed under all the snow.

Really happy this is just bolt on, cause cutting it off would be no fun.

I had said I had the whole thing back on its wheels, which is true.

I then cut the rear most mounts off and tried to mock in the existing ones.
It is hard to see, but it is almost 1 inch away from the frame rails.
So, I had a full set of other mounts, so I will cut down the front most ones and make "medium" size ones so it will work with the outer most holes of the YJ tub position.

Got it?

I will mock them into place tonight... then I will level out the back of the tub and then tack these in.

Also I have to get that stupid stripped bolt out of the rear...

I got the Jeep buttoned up and pushed aside so I can bring in the new CJ7 for tear down.
I am glad I have a lot of the mock up done and I finally got that darn oil filler plug in.
Put some gear oil in the rear and it is holding so far.

Once the CJ7 is torn down, I plan on working on the rear bump up section and enclosing in the rear.

Tucked away for a little while

I don't even think the most built CJ7 would be able to tow that trailer with the CJ8 up and down the mountains of Maine!

I moved the CJ7 in to tear it down... moved the truck project over.

I thinkt hat is a VW Beetle seat on the passenger side.
Bummer about the rear.

Still taking down the CJ7... I got another parts haul in and picked up the powdercoated wheels, so I have been busy elsewhere.
This CJ7 is completed glassed over top of 100% rust... it is a basket case and there were lag screws holding in the seat belts... let that sink in.

It was 60 degrees last night... garage open and cleaning parts that have been removed.
Tonight it is supposed to be similar temps before snow tomorrow (I know, right?)... so I hope to get that beautiful, tight, auto, tilt column out and then I can remove the dash.
There are still center caps on the work bench I have to polish out for the powder coated wheels when they come back from the stripers.

Unusually warm here too. 84 today and 7 days straight of 80 degrees.

Finally got back to disassembly after all the clean up and sorting... still warm last night... but not today ;)
The fender did not want to come out peacefully, but it was in nice shape, so I wanted to save it... the other side is smashed, so it gets the sawzall...

Got some time to jam last night... fenders are off, column is out, dash is off, all came out pretty easily... next up is all the interior stuff and move onto getting that roll bar out.

I thought this tub was OK when I looked at it... this is why you DO NOT BUY in the snow!
