Perfect storm & it was my wife's idea!

Hey all long time no see . So it starts again I'm gathering my wits for another rebuild of the great CJ 8. I was in the 3rd accident in 2 years with my new 2018 CRV. Not 1 was my fault but it's ridiculous.. I don't know if it's the color or what but apparently my CRV is invisible to other drivers.

So I told my wife I want out of the CRV time for a Jeep Period. After a couple days of ideas being swapped back-and-forth like I'm going to get a Jeep LJ and her reply was but it's so old why don't you get a newer Jeep and I said you got $30000.

Then last night she blew me away by saying why don't you just rebuild the old Jeep this is a good opportunity and I said but it's going to take some money and she said like how much, under $10000 I said yeah and she said just do that…
...I did not argue with that logic at all!
So here we go!
  1. New engine, or rebuild
  2. Clifford or offenhauser intake with mc2100
  3. Needs a new bed & bulkhead
  4. Tires, shocks
  5. New lift
This is just the start of the list.
Probably won't start immediately but as you all know, for all intents and purposes it's started!

I am excited for you!!! Awesome!!

Having done a FAST EZ-EFI, I will never do another carb build again. It’s one thing if you work on one that’s there, but by the time you do the intake (which you don’t need IMO) and the carb, you’re too close to the cost of a bolt-on TB EFI system.

In your case, there is no way I would do a carb if you intend on regularly driving this. Could be a Sniper or whatever, just don’t spend a dime trying to keep the carb.

Cool, tell me more of an ez efi

Google is your friend. Throttle body EFI system with a version made to bolt onto the 258. Mine was on a 360, now on a 401. Dead simple and miles better than any carb will ever be. There are a number on the market now from different companies.

The was going to be my question. Why with the EFI systems out there, why Carb? I have one of the first EFI Mopar that came out on mine for years. They are probably better now.

The MOPAR kits are no more, but I seriously think that the throttle body setups are 95% as
good for far less expense and complication.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against this. I know all of the benefits.
It's more of a tackling the bigger issues 1st. This is but a detail, lol

When I said "They are probably better now" I ment EFIs that are out there now compared to the old Mopar.

I have the sniper efi for bbd. I think it is MUCH better than a carb. I’d never go back to carb.

I think the Howell is another good choice.

Dropping a LS in is another good choice and can be done for a little more than the sniper complete kit if done with junkyard parts. Or a SBC would be a good choice. While the Jeep I6 is a great engine, it is a heavy pig and the small block V-8s weigh about the same for much better power (can be tuned for great low end torque, or great high end horsepower, pick your poison).

Regardless of the option, I am excited to follow along with your build.

Good luck with the rebuild Mike. I’m with the fuel injection crowd, but do it with a complete 4.0 or LS...it’s cheaper than rebuilding the 258.

Holley sniper kit all the way. I've done a few and they work awesome. If you are still in Lynchburg Va hit me up I'm not far from you. About an hour, just east of charlottesville.
Yes, I am. I'm usually found up in Shenandoah & George Washington Nat'l forest hiking & camping. Blue Ridge Parkway is my playground =)
Def want to meet n greet!
I agree FI is the way to go, but I was just looking at the big picture in bringing it back to life.
I've run an mc2100 before & liked it but will eventually go FI. Maybe right off the bat but regardless, Lot's to do.
THIS time I'm sending it to a shop. for the big stuff. I don't have a garage currently =(
  1. I'll need help/advice with fuel injection choices
  2. Finding a good bulkhead
  3. deciding on the best riding lift for 33" tires and also 2-3" vs 4"
This will probably kick off in January & boy am I excited!!
Has anyone ever heard of Leesville Rd Auto Services? They supposedly specialize in older jeeps.20200109_120653.jpg
