wouldn't be caught dead with a slush box.
I used to feel that way, but back in the day we had a 2dr '93 XJ that we would tow behind the motorhome to CO for our summer vacations. Drove Imogene Pass with it and then in the Scrambler after getting it. Honestly, easier in the XJ slushbox than the '8 with the 4.0 and T5...

You have to sell your CJ-8 to buy a 4xe?

Guess I did that wrong.

I’ll bet it was to buy a classic FJ

Took a quick weekend trip to try out a bunch of new camping gear. Went to some trails on the North side of Mt. Shasta. About 65 highway miles. Jeep did great both on and off road. It is a beast on the trail. I was very impressed with the suspension feel at low and medium-high speeds. The SOA springs and Bilstein shocks with the stiffer valving really handled the bumps well. Smooth ride over roots and small rocks.

Quickly got into some snow. I was by myself. Cleared two down trees and the snow was getting deep. Decided to turn around and head in farther on another route.

Dropped down about 1,000 feet in elevation and found a good camp spot. I saw nobody all day. It started snowing - just a dusting at this point.

It dropped down pretty cold at night. This was a reading from the Garmin "Tempe" sensor attached to my spare tire rack.

Packed up just in time. The snow was starting to really come down as I got back on the trail to head home.

Little Red Campfire was key. As was the electric blanket in the tent!

Didn't get to where I wanted to go but it was fun and everything worked out well.

I use GAIA GPS. I have used it for many years backpacking (I was a Scoutmaster for years) and in the jeep. Until now it was just on my iphone and it works well. Just be sure to download the map layers you want of the area you will be in so they work off-line. I use the previous generation iPad mini with LTE. I don't have a cell subscription. But the LTE version has the GPS chipset so GAIA GPS can use your location on the map. If I need it to be online and am in an area with reception, I just setup my phone as a hotspot and connect to it from the iPad.

I also use OneDrive to sync a part number spreadsheet, some diagrams and other info I want to have available on the trail. When driving, I use Google or Apple maps on the iPad and also have sync'd my podcasts and large Spotify music playlists. So those are all streaming when driving when I want and they are easier to control than the smaller phone. I also have the apps for my Dometic refrigerator and Bluetti power station.

I may also add a wireless backup camera, with hard wired 12V, that goes to an iPad app to turn on when backing up on a trail. It's hard to get a good view with 35" tire back there.

OnX maps has come along way in the past couple of years. It has tons of trails with descriptions and ratings. I think it might be better for most people. I may do a trial version to check it out.

I also sync maps to my Garmin GPSMAP 67i in case the phone and/or iPad don't work. They don't like to charge well when really cold or hot and are much more delicate. The ipad and iPhone will dim the screen when they get really hot. The Garmin is much more rugged and uses buttons instead of a touch screen. 90% of the time I am using the iPad or iPhone but the Garmin is a great fail safe. It is also my InReach satellite messenger so I can stay in touch woth my wife or others. And of course call for a rescue if needed.

Hello guys,

Yes, she gone. I told the new owner about CJ-8.com. He's a great guy, I'm sure we will see him here.

My wife had open heart surgery in January. She was never a fan of the 8 ever, but since the surgery she struggles to get in and out and doesn't really like the ride because it hurts her chest. She's over the moon that it's gone; I'm feeling very mixed.

It got to where I rarely drove the 8 and when we went out in a fun car it was usually the Camaro. I hated to see the 8 just sitting in the garage: I built it to be driven and enjoyed, not to sit in a shop.

Finnily enough, my next car may be my last car. The fellow who bought my last 40 contacted me after the auction to ask whether I'd be interested in buying my old 40 back. I think I may try to as that's the car I miss most of all my old cars. I had that one for about 13 or 14 years and brought it here with me from Australia. I have a lot of memories in that car and would love to have her back: I drove my son home from the hospital in Australia in that 40. It remains to this day my son's favourite too; and since the Camaro becomes his in 2 years, I'm effectually need a replacement.

Sorry to hear of your wife's medical issues. Hopefully she continues to recover and doesn't have any further issues.
Good luck on getting your 40 back, we'll need pics.
