‘80 - ‘83 CJ-5 used a D300 transfer case. Earlier years used a D20.

It’s not a bad idea as long as it doesn’t stretch you thin on the Scrambler, time or money wise.

The story I've got is, frame has been checked, cleaned, reinforced. Has a good title. Transmission bad. Body rusted bad. All taken apart.
I was thinking I could use some of other front body parts for Scrambler.

I'm building my chassis for Scrambler seperate from my Scrambler. So I already have extra the complete 4 cylinder drive train, axles, springs, steeering box, fuel cell. Basically enough to get another chassis built.
Didn't want to buy, then find out none of my parts would bolt to CJ5 frame

Question 35:
Someone is selling a tilt wheel, advertised for CJ.
But it is 20220721_112023.jpgfrom a General Motors vehicle. Swears up and down it came out of Jeep and it will work.
Yes or no

Did some research, seems the 1st and biggest issue is spline count. That is a biggie, modifications to steering shaft are not a postive move when there are orginal factory choices available.

Question 36:
How deep can you drive the typical Srambler in the water.

Sometimes my house property floods during hurricanes. It's about 1/8 mile from high land. Goes from knee deep and up

Axles, transmission, engine, etc need to be prepared. This video might have a few tips to consider

Considering that it sounds like you dealing with costal/salt water flooding, you really don’t want to do that.

Well..... sounds like a bad idea to go in the water.
Scrap that thought.
I liked the idea of running vent lines to a higher area in video and using the electro grease. Probably will do this since I building frame/drive line from scratch. For just in case

Question 37:
What size alternator should I purchase for my carburated Chevy small block engine thats currently being redone?
1. Double battery set up ?
2. 10-12k winch on front
3. No Air-condition on vehicle
4. Standard lights plus maybe bed light and spotlight
5. Dash fan
6. Painless wiring
Main reason is the winch, never had one before, don't want to overload system easily

I actually use my 13k winch a decent amount, but mostly for yard work. I was using a 105 amp alternator for years before it gave up. It didn't burn out, the bearing in it started screeching while I was at the sand dunes 2 years ago so I upgraded to a 145 amp. In my opinion if you are over 100 amps, you will be fine.

I personally don't find it necessary to get duel batteries. I use a battery out of a Ford Excursion and it fits...just Barely but does fit. That is over 1000 cold cranking amps. It does perfectly fine.

When you are using a winch, your aren't always pulling a ton of amps. It will vary depending on what your doing. When you use it, only pull in short intervals so you don't kill your jeep and also so you don't overheat the winch itself. Especially when you are stuck in deep mud or something else that will be pulling a heavy load.

I use an X Bull winch. They come with a synthetic rope and a wireless controller on ebay for less than $300. I hate steel cables. They're heavy and it sucks when they fray and stab you. I somehow manage to do this even with leather gloves on. There are a lot of winches out there. And very surprisingly the only failures I personally have seen has always been with Warn. I know they are supposed to be so fantastic but I just haven't been that impressed. I'm just sharing what I see.
Hope this helps
